DVD on iDrive?
 

Can you play DVD's on the iDrive screen? What happens if you put a DVD in the slot for the CD? or the slot for the Navigation DVD? or inside the 6 disc changer?

the DVD drive is only meant for amps...it can't play DVD movies...and i'm unsure about this, but the CD changer can't read DVDs

Im not sure what would happen with the BMW, but on my MB, which has the dvd navi, I put in a dvd and it played the sound. The picture did not come up on the screen however. I asked the dealership, they said that it was odd that the car even played the dvd, because it is U.S. spec. Only euro spec versions play the dvd. I dont think it would hurt to try it.

Since April in Switzerland we can order the option 696 DVD-changer for the glove box (instead of CD-changer). If you have the backup camera installed, you have to order the tv-function (601). With these options you can watch DVD movies while the car isn't moving. There ist also the possibility to play the multichannel soundtracs (dolby-digital etc.) direct from DVDs. I ordered these options together with the ipod-usb interface (6FL) and will receive the car in June (if no further delays).
