Help with choosing service pack

Here in the UK, the E70 is just about to be launched. I Think mine will be in the first batch, however the dealer is not being clear.

What I am thinking of buying at pick up time is a service pack, but am not sure which one to go for.

In UK the following are an option:

3years 36000 Service only £500
5years 60000 Service only £780
3years 36000 Service and Maintence £1175
5years 60000 Service and Maintence £1885

The difference between the two seams to be Brakes, Barke Discs, Clutch assembly and windows wipers.

I travel around 8K-10K a year, and am not sure which of the above to get. I am not sure which services are due and around about what mileages. Can some one help ?

Rajiboy,

Considered these before with few other BMWs I have bought. To be honest if you are not a high mileage driver it ain't worth it. The X5 ( I assume you have a 3.0d ) is going to have serivce inteval of prob 20k mls. That means in 3 years if you drive 10k a year you will have to do only one service and that means 250-300 so i would leave it alone and save yourself £200. Likewise the all in maintenance, great if you drive a lot but the wipers, only likely piece you will replace in 30K are not going to cost you £675
My dealer is always advising me against them as I tend to trade my cars in too quickly much to his delight
If you keep the car 5 years that might be more interesting at 780 as you will likely do one minor service and a major one around 45-50k mls cost prob around 600-700 total...

I agree, 3 years and just less than 30,000 miles and my service costs have been nowhere near the service package costs. I just hope my E70 is as reliable as my E53. I have had zero problems and only had to visit the shop twice in 3 years!

My advise

5years 60000 Service and Maintence £1885

keep the whole "first year run" thing in mind.
warranty isn't free?? :thumbsdown BMW Scotland!!!

upgrade 4/50 -> 6/100 maintenance AND service = $2490 here, pays for itself generally

Thank you for this. yes you are right, I am getting a 3.0d, and will probably keep it for around 5-6 years. I have not had a BMW Desiel before so am not sure about intervals, though the indications seems to be around the 20K mark. I am guessing the Oil Change is in the first 10K ? and a Brake Fluid Change is somewhere inbetween the 20K and 30K mark ? Looking again at your answer above the major service Inspection 2, is around the 45-50K mark ?

Oil and filter stuff isn't that frequent; however, you will hit a brake job at about 36,000 miles (conversion needed). If the light for brakes comes on at 38,000 miles you'll be out a chunk of pounds... I'd go for the 5YR 60,000.

you don't get any standard warranty in Europe?

Warranty is free! (3 years unrestricted mileage) The service packages pay for your oil services and/or inspections I and II.

In the US, warranty is 4 years/50,000 miles, and includes oil changes, brakes, etc... all maintenance, everything except for tires (even covers windshield wipers...).
