2007 3.0 X5 Sport Package Question

Was on the BMW USA site building an X5 and have two questions about the sport package.

First, aside from the 19" wheels, what are the exterior visual differences between a car with and without the sport package? The web site says "anthracite headliner" and "shadowline trim". Do these really add a lot to the look of the car in your opinion? I know that sometimes a car in "base" form can look rather drab to me, so I was wondering if the sport package really dresses the cars look up a lot visually. If anyone has a decent picture of what these things are, that would be great.

Second, can the 19" wheels be ordered separately from the sport package? The web site does not seem to offer that option.

Lastly, the rear bumper does not seem to have a cutout for a hitch. I actually own a 2004 X5 and the rear bumper has a cutout for the hitch receiver - does a special bumper need to be ordered?

thanks,
Ron

With the sport package, I believe that you'll get the dark headliner which looks great. I can't imagine having a creme colored headliner. Also, the exterior of the car will be trimmed out in black rather than chrome. I really like the dark trim which gives it a custom look. I think it is called shadowline trim. In my opinion, this is mandatory with black and the space grey for a cool look. I am sure there are other things you'll get with the sport package.

basically, if you do not have the sport pacakge, the exterior window sill will have this "dull matte" plastic finish. with the sport package, you'll get annodized aluminum for a high glossy relective finish similar to the paint of the car. unnoticable to the untrained eye, it gives the X a higher degree of class. also with the sport, the front mesh underneath the hood and grille will be a titanium color instead of black

you also get the antracite headliner to contrast or compliment your interior.

without sport a black, grey, and tobacco interior will have a grey headliner; and beige will have beige

with sport, there will be a nicer feeling material which looks much nicer than headliners without sport.

you cannot order with 19s without sport. you can however, upon delivery, exchange them for a price, spoken in advanced to the ordering of the car

concerning the bumper, they'll be cutting a slight groove in the middle

why cant you get the 20"(style 214) with the 3.0 sport pkg

xnsf 04-24-2007 10:16 AM

they make it exclusive to the 4.8...:dunno:

Is the the sport version called 3.0si while the non-sport version called 3.0i? What does the "s" in 3.0si mean - or are all of the 2007s called 3.0si.

xnsf 04-24-2007 10:20 AM

all are 3.0si. s is to denote the 260-hp 3.0 I6, and not sport

Blakef 04-24-2007 10:21 AM

xnsf - thanks for clearing up the "si" marking!

no problem

If you get the 4.8 Sport Pkg. does the anthracite headliner come in different colors like the regular headliner or only black?

Anthracite is black just like Anthracite Coal. No other colour.

Ah, it's the name of the color. I thought it was a different type of material.
Thanks

Thanks for all the responses....the pictures of both the sport and non-sport models really helped show the differences. X5FX - yours is outfitted pretty much how I'm thinking of mine, so thanks for the awesome pictures. I'm waiting for more reports on the '08 model before deciding.....

Still a little unclear about the hitch receiver. I use the hitch receiver to carry a bike rack and am wondering how the bumper is modified to accomodate this.

thanks again,
Ron
