X5 alarm question
 

I was wondering when is the alarm supposed to go off. I tried to open the door without the key I thought the alarm should go off. Is this true? Because the alarm in my car is not going off when I try to pull the handle without the key.

was it unlocked?

For the alarm to go off the door has to be opened, just moving the handle will not set it off. Here's a link to a detailed explanation of the system.

Thanks for the clarification. I found on page 34 of the owner's manual it states that "The vehicle alarm responds when a door, the hood or the liftgate is opened" I wasn't sure if it was just pulling the handle should cause the alarm to go off or if the door has to be opened.
