I must admit..

The exterior of the E70 is growing on me. While sitting in traffic yesterday on the good 'ol Long Island Distressway along side me was a small caravan of the Susan G Komen cars, an E70, 650i and a 335 vert. So, there's an E70 to my left and an E53 to my right. I can see the evolution......

Too bad cars aren't like shoes. When I can't decide I just buy both.
Glad I still have 7 months.

L,
It should become more clear, decison-wise,
the closer you get.

Hey, you lucky 3 yr owners get a new ride regularly!

The Cayenne is growing on me too.... the base Cayenne is now 290hp and the list of standard features is pretty good. Jury still out on reliability.

AutoXer 05-20-2007 10:25 AM

Laura, I know what you mean. I was at my friend's house yesterday admiring her brand new E70 4.4i, kind of make mine feel a little old :(

I've always liked the looks of the Cayenne. Did you ever sit in one. The seats are very hard and uncomfortable.

I originally had a line in my post about the E53 looking dated against the E70 but couldn't bring myself to acutally post it.

MD, Verbalkint...That's very funny. Laura, clear and decision in the same sentence.

The facelifted Cayenne doesn't look any better. The E70 (no offense) still looks too big. I still prefer the looks of the E53.

It's wierd, I thought I would "get used" to the Bangle-era BMW styling. Whenever a new model came out, I would say "well it's fugly now but maybe it'll grow on me". Fast forward to today: the 3 sedan is still bad, the 5 still looks mediocre (facelift helped). The only ones that I have accepted are the facelifted 7-series, 6-series, and the Z4. No doubt in my mind that 2001 was the best year for BMW in terms of styling.

L...this one did it for me!!

Almost everyone on this board keeps talking about the aero kit. I see the pictures and it really is a must but is it available in Europe only. I have been thru the brochure here in the US several times and haven't seen one listed. Also one more question..some of the best looking wheels are not in the brochure here also, are they Europe only or aftermarket?? Thanks

I didn't really like the sedan facelift in 2002. It wasn't bad by any measure, but I give a slight preference to 2001 (my uncle has a 330i sport from that year). However, would I buy a 2001? No. The steering is overboosted that year.

L, I actually worked on that post line for awhile, for you...
I knew you'd "get it". ;)

E53 vs E70 dated? Not imo.

20 yrs from now the E53 will be in the car books as one of the examples
of cutting edge "suv styling". I doubt the E70 will make that cut.
But, get whatcha want!

Long Island Distressway... nice... first time I've heard it called that... and I drive it every weekend. :( It's gotten better with the lengthened HOV lane over a year or two ago but it can still be pretty bad.

Anyway, RTTI on the NAV is a must for my potential MY2008 as well.

Meiac09 05-26-2007 12:06 PM

I'm hoping for carbon black. that would seal the deal for me... but then again, i'm waiting for the facelift (for more reasons than one) ;)
