Xena goes in the Huff

Got into Xena today and got the dreaded BMW boing! Message on iDrive - 4x4 system faulty - driving stability restricted. Drive Moderately. :(

Attachment 17663

Sounds like it is DSC related. Going to see the dealer on Monday. Will let you know the outcome.

Update: 18/06

Xena went to see the technician today who says her transfer box is faulty (at least he thinks so). PUMA sent to BMW for confirmation. It may simply be the control unit.

Thats bad news , hopefully the problem can be resolved quickly.

Can you drive it OK? If so can you tell you have a problem? Apart from the PuMA is the dealer doing anything else to deal with the issue and/or your concerns.

StumpyPete 06-18-2007 03:09 PM

It drives fine -the only symptom is that the DSC is deactivated - the handling is perhaps a little less sharp - but techies happy for it to be driven. Not a problem with it being summer. However if it was winter then I would be more concerned.

Result of PUMA is that transfer box requires a Set Positioning Motor - No.10 in the attached RealOEM link. That's the bit that varies the torque between front and rear axles (I think!). Part is on back-order (why does that surprise me!) - so coming from Germany. Xena booked in for surgery at the end of next week.

Update 5th July

Xena got the new positioning motor today, guess what - it didn't fix the problem. Lots of scratching of heads in dealership - another PUMA raised. She's spending the night at the dealer in the hope they get a response from Germany tomorrow.

I've got a 530d as a loaner - Crap interior but brilliant engine.

Something about the E70...all the major parts are on backorder!

My darn CCC module for the iDrive is on backorder till the first week of August. I can't believe BMW doesn't have their act together on spare parts for these cars.

Parts actually didn't take too long to get here. The positioning motor was in the dealership in less than a week. The issue here is that the parts didn't resolve the problem.

Xena is getting connected up to Germany today! Apparently they can connect the car to the BMW network, and then the boffins in Munich can do a deeper diagnosis that is possible in the dealership. Would love to see that happening! :yikes:

On a more serious note, if we cannot get progress today I'm going to have to think seriously about rejecting the car and demanding a replacement - the problem is I really like Xena. I hated driving around in the 5-series last week - it simply doesn't feel as special as the X5 does.

StumpyPete 07-10-2007 10:54 AM

Dealership is now saying that whole transfer box will need to be replaced, they believe something in the clutch mechanism has gone. Going to be at least another week before parts are here.

I feel your pain. Although my problems dont sound nearly as bad as yours, it still pains me to be without my X. At least you got a 5 series as a loaner. All i got was a 328. Not an even trade if you ask me. I am secretly kind of hoping that my idrive doesnt get fixed so I can trade it in on an upgrade;)
