Undercarriage rattle?

I have a rattle when hitting small bumps/potholes/speedbumps, even at low speeds. I took it in and the dealer thought it may be the end links of the sway bars, so they were replaced. Well the rattle is still there. it sounds like something's just not tight.

anyone else get a rattle when going over bumps?

Sometimes I get a clicking noise over bumps and sometimes not, a bit strange. Do you have the sport suspension?

My is very solid...no rattles.

yeah i've got the sport suspension.

i realize the sway bars are there to help when i'm cornerning at high speeds and to prevent rollovers. but it's annoying hearing it all the time rattling around like that.

i'm gonna go test drive a few more x5s when i'm down in Atlanta next month to see if i can consider it normal.

My 07 X5 is the tightest car for rattles that I have ever owned. The only rattle I ever get is because I put the tie down hooks in the cup in the back. I have zero noise from under the car. What they say is normal I do not know but the SAV can be very quiet. I do not have sport however.

I saw a rattle problem on the service bulletins posted as a sticky on page 1, I think it said it was coming from the gear box, a likely broken piece but cant be sure, might be worth a look.

Definitely a rattle issue though.

Can you isolate the problem at all aside from " a rattle under the car "? Where under the car, front, rear, drivers side, passenger side....

atl_lex77 06-19-2007 08:06 PM

Well I feel it under the driver's side, I think. but seriously, that's kinda tough to pinpoint while i'm sitting in the car driving it.

thanks for the heads up on the service bulletin. i'm going to forward that to my service advisor and see what he thinks!

could be as simple as a heat shield.

I discovered a rattle on Monday - my wife had left her hairbrush in the door pocket!
