Virgin no more
So after 2 months after buying a black saph 07 3.0, the car is going back to the dealership for work. About a week ago, the brilliant idrive system craps out on me. All it does is show the grey BMW screen. It sits on this screen for about 3 minutes then it looks like it tries to reboot itself. At least the car still runs. Has anyone had this problem?
I hope this isn't a sign of whats to come (knocks on wood). |
Damn man, I was all ready to bust this out:
:worthless: You gotta not sucker me like that! |
I thought you broke in the engine and finally broke her cherry... WOT

good one! good luck on the repair |
So just wanted to give an update. the dealership couldnt figure out why the idrive thing wont work. They ordered a main gateway module or CCC module and want to replace it. Has anyone ever heard of this part or know what it does? Looks like it will be at least a week before i get the car home.

Or, maybe not... |
Welcome to the club, and consider yourself a full fledged member. Weather it's a sign of whats to come or not don't let it frazzle ya. That's what the warranty is for. Just get an explination in writting for all the emergency room visits. I have found that the first line of defense is the paperwork. Get em to put everything in writing. That way there's a paper trail if things go bonkers

New Update: So I get a call last Thursday the 5th saying that the CCC has arrived and is installed. The idrive works but it is really slow. They were still trying to find out what is causing the problem. Get another call Saturday and they tell me that the new CCC that they put in got burnt out just like the original. They have to order another one which will cost them another $4K in parts; or so they tell me. So now back to the waiting game. Part should be in today and we will see what happens next.
I am in CA. I have been told that if the dealership tries to fix the same problem 3 times and fails, the car qualifies as a lemon under CA law. Can anyone comment on this? PS. dont mind not having the car as they gave me a loaner for the past 2 weeks. |

So I pick up the car last night and it looks like everything is working. I spoke with the SA and mechanic about what happened. It turns out that this was a very common problem. My original CCC unit malfunctioned. The first replacement unit they ordered had the exact same problem as my original malfunctioning one. The mechanic even thought he put the original back in by mistake. The second replacement unit finally worked. Supposedly, getting a ccc unit from BMW has been a crap shoot. It has been hit or miss whether the unit works straight from BMW.
So overall, not too bad of an experience. Only had my car in the shop for about 12 days. |
