this happens to my truck when its inot in sport mode

I did notice it recently when going up a steep hill. You may be on to it.

I'll have to see if it's better/worse in sport. I know I've been driving sport but I know we noticed it before that.

btw: I have feb 07 4.8 with adaptive drive.

I mentioned it last time I was in (to replace the sunroof from a broken screen) and they said it was according to spec. I have to go in again for other issues (like camera malfunction and loss of memory presets) and will ask again.

X5FX: what did you mean by programming? Does that mean they need to 'fix' it or is that by design or ???

mine decreased noticably after the engine broke in...still notice it occasionally. As far as the dealer is concerened, I got the standard "couldnt duplicate problem" rubber stamp.

What I meant by programming is it seems to me that the transmission downshifts at the wrong time causing the hesitation and restance we feel. I think this can be adjusted by reprograming the transmission. A software update can fix this. Persistance in asking the dealer will evidentially pay off.
I had other transmission issues earlier that were fixed w/ an update (mine is 11/06 build)

Makes alot of sense. If you read page 22 of:

You see exactly what AZN is talking about. Basically the chart shows

Accelerator pedal position/angle on the Y axis and Speed on the X. The torque converter is locked up most of the time, but in certain situations, low speed, pedal to the floor, you get tons of slip. Ive most certainly felt this after taking a corner and thought it was abnormal, but its definately in the software.

I find myself reading myself to sleep reading the technical documents here on x5world, does anyone else?

But in all seriousness, Im very impressed with the technical documentation about these cars. It really looks like they know what they are doing, and really engineer some good solutions. I hope they remap the tranny software to improve driveability.

The big change in cable throttle vs. drive by wire is that in the cable throttle situation, you only have throttle position (most of us are used to keeping the accelerator at a certain position and letting the tranny do the rest).

With drive by wire, the throttle position, the position gradient (how fast you hit the throttle), speed, etc are all taken into account, and sometimes the features put in for "NVH reduction" hurt the driving dynamics of the car.
