Unpainted bumpers - Maybe a good thing

Anyone who'd driven on the Capitol Beltway around Washington DC knows it's dangers - rocks and gravel, pieces of truck tires, etc. I had to make a run to downtown DC from MD the other day and when I got back I notice a couple of pock marks in the front painted bumper and one small gash on the hood, probably from gravel. The unpainted part of the bumper that probably took the most hits from road gravel was unscathed. Possibly a harder plastic? Anyway, I don't want to put a full cover bra on the front of the truck as it looks like hell, and from my experience with the "clear bra" it works well only on very small pieces of debris. I spoke with a BMW dealer and he said BMW now offers a hard plastic hood shield that protects the hood. Bolts on. Anyone have experience with this and does it help keep the front of the hood from getting torn up?

Yea I know what you're talkin about for the hood. It should work and will deflect most of the gravel.

There's a ton of crap on I-270 especially because they're regrooving and repaving major portions of the freeway. In addition, there seems to be roadwork EVERYWHERE in MoCo this year. Lots of sand, dust, and gravel gets kicked up.

I've asked for the part number and will post here. I was told a photo of the deflector is in the new accessories catalog (I've got to pick one up).

FYI - If you have Space Gray - Per dealer BMW has not yet started stocking touch up paint in this color yet. Did not ask about other colors.

I have a "bug deflector" right now (pic) and like the looks of it but on an X5, I'm not so sure. I would really hate to get it all dinged up without one though. Would love to see a pic.

I'd like to find a picture of the deflector before I order it too. I would hope BMW would make it to match the X5.
On another note, GOOD NEWS! Bavarian Auto has Space Grey paint (as well as other X5 colors) in a pencil applicator. Ordered one today.

Here's a pic of the new front end protector.
