Night vision again!?

Okay so it is down to a 2008 550 manual or X5 4.8. Can anyone say if the 2008 X5 will have night vision. I will wait for the 2008 X5 spec sheet and if it is not there I am leaning towards the 550, but it will be the wives decision as it will be here ride. She currently drives a M3 CIC, but she need a baby hauler. Yeah I know the X5 will do a better job.

y5choi 07-25-2007 12:15 AM

As far as I know

All of the 2008 preview sites that I've been through have indications that the new x5 will sport night vision:thumbup: but as you mentioned you won't know for sure till the order sheet comes out. I thought some people in this forum said that the 2008's are orderable right now in the US, (not sure about Canada). I was thinking about waiting for the 2008 as well because of the possibility of having night vision (efficientdynamics and other improvments as well on the 2008) but I'm just not sure if its worth the 3 to 4 month wait.

By the way, I've heard that the 08 5series have lane change sensors (the steering vibrates when you step on the lane) do you have any experience with this? sounds like a useless gadget on paper but you never know in real life right? (Similar to HUD, people thought it was unnecessary until they experienced it)

When do you think the spec sheets will be reeased? What are the odds on a diesel in the US?

Thanks

Looks like the US won't get a diesel until 2009 model. (Sept 2008 production)

tikitim2 07-25-2007 01:54 AM

I have read about the lane change warning system and Volvos blind spot
system and I am not sure I want to be a german test subject. Almost every BMW I have ever owned has had some bugs that never left the system. Most everything else on either car I am looking at has been done before, so I am going to stick with what will most likely work. Fewer things to go wrong. We all pay the price driving these neat cars, they all break the KISS rule wide open. That and my Range Rover SC has been flawless, so I figure I am due for some bad car luck. Night vision or it is a 550 and euro delivery. Neither option is bad option. All good either way and hardly a complaint here, but I think the X5 is a better family car.

This keeps going back and forth on this forum. It was understood (from a BMW NA exec a couple weeks ago) that the MY2008 model will include a diesel - twin turbo even. Are you getting new information ?

I heard only England was getting the new dieasel in the new production period. Somewhere on the forum it mentioned it and that the US had to wait another year. I think it might have something to do with bio-diesel for the US as the current diesel cannot use bio.

I always thought the X5 will get the 3 litre diesel sometime in the MY 2008 cycle.

Make sure you go over it with fine tooth comb.

Remember to go into idrive and set your air vents up correctly or no air comes out, you can also set the temp via idrive of the driver side and passenger side vents as well which is independent to the temp controls on climate control airconditioner on the dash.

So does anyone know when the US 2008 X5's are due out? My 2007 has been 'On Order' for 3 weeks. Wondering if I should cancel and wait for the 2008.

CGSTL 07-26-2007 11:52 AM

In the past you can place an order in September and your dealers will start receiving units in October.

Two totally different beasts. I had a 540 for three years then switched to an X5. The 550 is a road rocket compared to the X5; however, for an SUV, the X5 is the best out there.

If she's already in an M3 I would transition her to the 550 with a couple of kiddie seats in the back. The X5 would be most useful if you have larger kids that require more space for sports equipment, etc., to be tossed in the back. X5 is a much larger auto.

Does she happen to be a soccer mom?

Just got off the phone with BMW. They told me Production starts in September for the 2008 X5. Orders are being taken in 2 to 3 weeks from now.

If that is right I reckon we have our government and in particular the London Congestion Charge to thank. As of next year if you drive a car bought since early this year in Central London with emissions of over 225g/km you will have to pay £25 a day!!! (currently £8 with residents discount which is disappearing) Until EfficeintDynamics was launched all the new X5's were over that limit....now with ED both the 3.0d and sd are below that limit and nothing any other manufacturer makes comes close. It's a huge sales advantage.

and what about Active Cruise Control???

y5choi 07-28-2007 04:02 PM

yes, active cruise control is there too but it just does not tickle my fancy so i neglected to mention it. ;) not a big fan of cruise control, because I rolled into a ditch once off a highway with it on and not willing to use cruise or think about it again for a long long time.

JFW 07-28-2007 09:50 PM

If I may ask, what level was the BMW NA exec you spoke to last week? And did he/she tell you when BMW will make the official announcement on the 08's?

Thanks
