iPod Adapter (6FL) Problems?
While using the factory installed iPod adapter, has anyone experienced intermittent switching from the iPod (AUX mode) to FM Mode?? Time varys but it usually occurs within 3-5 minutes of play with the iPod. I noticed on other forums that other new BMW models are experiencing the exact same issue but I haven't noticed any posts on here expressing this problem with the E70 X5.
If you have this problem, what response have you received from dealer with regard to this problem? If your dealer resolved the issue, please advise as well. Thanks much.... |
It's been posted here http://www.xoutpost.com/x5-e70-forum/...?highlight=6fl..... a software release is allegedly expected in September...!

on my brand new X5, it occasionally drops into FM after a few minutes, but not always.

Glad to here your X5 is ok and you like it. They put the new control arms in and the X5 is worse, under brakes I have to pull righthand down to keep it on the road straight and if I want to change lands now all I do is take the pressure off the steering wheel and goes to the lefthand lane straight away. Its so bad now if I am on the otherdise of the road (RH lane with camber on the road going to the right it will actually drive left up the opposite camber, now that's bad. The new arms they put in gave camber adjust not castor, even the mechcanic that put them in said it would not work and that caster adjust is required. Anyway they are putting the old control arms back in because the X5 is now dangerous to drive. Just told the dealer I want new X5 and they are getting this one back. |

just reported to my SA that mine had done this 2 or 3 times, but not "regularly" so he said he'd have to check with BMW to see if they'll let him replace the parts as the parts replacement is only authorized if it's frequent.. apparently, some cars only need a software patch, while others need both parts and software. He is also having to do the same with my DVD player for the rear entertainment. I guess they can't just change parts out as they deem fit without first checking with BMW to see if that makes sense. Which is a good thing I suppose.

Hi! This is my first post here. I'm looking for some information about this particular option (6FL). Does it correspond to the factory-installed option described on the iPodYourBMW website ?
Also, iPodYourBMW claims that you can sort your library by artist, album etc. but this article here says otherwise. My guess is that the article I linked to refers either to an option available on the previous (X53) model, or to to a kit that can be installed afterwards. Can someone confirm that the 6FL option can sort your library as described on iPodYourBMW ? And does it also show song names on the main display ? Oh, and if someone has a 6FL installation that is working properly, I'd like to hear about you (looks like most people are having issues here) ;) (if you think I should start a new topic for my question, please tell me) |
I have not been able to go by Artist / Album.. I've just got play lists on mine, but then it could be user error.
|
Thanks for your reply. The playlist-based system is also described in the iPodYourBMW owner's manual which I found on the front page, but the audio system represented in the manual is that of the older X5 (?). Are you able to see track names though ?
|
We're using playlists, and we can see the track titles...DH is the iPod expert, and I don't think he's tried scrolling through the album/artist index yet. He's got tons of music on his iPod, and playlists are easier.
|
Thanks. At least you can see the track names, which is nice.

Tomorrow I pick up my X5 and supposed to have both the iPod issue and the DVD rear entertainment fixed.. IF SO, I will be sure to post what those fixes are, so you can talk to your SA's.

Went and checked my car just now & the USB audio is working again... I notice that as soon as I unlock the car the USB flash drive light flashes as well... That wasn't happening when it stopped working...!!!

I haven't been around for a few days…
Thanks for the pics, they really help! :) |
Will the Ipod/Usb adaptor work with another mp3 or music player and show the albums, etc. in the IDrive display? Or do you have to buy and IPod to have the full display funtionality in the IDrive?
|
I've used flash drives and you can browse by genres etc.. I am not sure about other players.. it all depends I think on the USB connection method of the device.. if the connect via the USB mass storage option then you should be able to step through the mp3's in a directory type structure.. if however the player uses a proprietary software and storage system you will not be able to ...

Thank you.

i had the BMW iPod adapter kit installed in my E60 M5 and it was a horrible, total disaster. I had it removed and kept my 6 CD changer.
is the iPod kit on the new X5 the same or a revised version? also what is this USB thing everyone is talking about? is it a part of the iPod kit on the X5? thanks! |
I receive my car on Friday, so have not seen the Ipod/USB adapter yet. But it is supposed to let other types of MP3/music players plug-in. If these other types of music players playlists, albums etc. show up correctly in the IDrive, nobody knows. All new stuff just come out. I wish BMW would give a list of compatible music players that will work correctly with the IDrive display, similar to what they do with bluetooth phones. Then we would know what we can go out and buy. Maybe some of us do not want to buy an Ipod!!
|
I just received my car last Friday. The iPod adapter works fine. I can access all my iPod playlists, albums, artists, songs, etc. through the iDrive controller. It plugs into both the aux. and USB plug. Comes with a cable from BMW to plug into your iPod. BTW bluetooth with my iPhone works great as well.

is the X5 iPod kit the same as the crappy 5 series/M5 version of the iPod kit?

Hey James,
that's cool. Not that I am super knowledgeable on alternative MP3 players. That list looks like a bunch that I am not familiar with. Are they Ozzy models. I think in the USA some of the big MP3 players are Zune (yuk), Creative Zen, IRiver Clix, SanDisk Sansa, Archos 604, Toshiba Gigabeat. At least I think these are all the current major players. |
That list was from BMW North America...seems very old school !!!
|
anyone has a picture f this kit so i could compare it to my E60 M5 (useless)iPod kit?
