Extended Sunroof Safety Issues?
 

After looking at the roll over pictures of an E70 X5, I was beginning to think of a article I read about the extended sunroof option in the X5 causing the roof to not be as sturdy in rollover situations. Is this true? Is there a proven difference in the strength of the roof in a rollover situation with and without the extended sunroof?

Yes, there is.
But, if you look at an E53 rollover pic vs. the E70 rollover pic, the E70 fared much better. The panoramic sunroof support bar is stonger than the one in the E53.

The roof structure is the same on both of the E70 (with and without the roof) so it should not affect it. That said, with the roof open and you not belted in properly, it could be an ejection port for you in a rollover.
