Mobile phone bracket - should it charge?

A very quick yes or no from E70 owners please ... should the phone cradle (as part of the bluetooth phone installation) charged your mobile phone? Because ours doesn't... I'm pretty sure it should, but I don't want to go to the dealer and look like an idiot and say "this bracket doesn't charge our phone" only for them to turn round and say "yes, because it shouldnt". :)

So - should a phone, when placed in the docking cradle, charge?

Thanks :)

is the docking cradle connected to an electric source? if not it shouldn't. bluetooth is wireless technology so i shouldn't see why it should charge..unless it's connect to an electrical source.

if you have the proper snap in adapter ifor your mobile installed, yes it should charge the phone.
Maybe your phone is not supporting this feature, which phone brand are you using ?

Nokia 6233. We purchased this phone based on BMW's recommendation for "most supported features". It is the official BMW snap in cradle. Can anyone confirm if it should charge?

I have a 6233 and it charges ok.. try reseating the cradle and ensuring it clicks in ...

btw the phone locks into the cradle very securely doesn't it !.. I thought I might break the phone when I "snapped" it in the first time !!!

Please post some photos....

Interested in seeing the cradle setup.

Is there a list of available phone cradles?

It definitely should charge. If it's not charging it's probably not making using of the cars aerial either.

There is a list of phone compatability here

www.bmw.co.uk/bluetooth

I am sure there is a US version of the page and some models numbers will probably be different. For some reason I have never understoog the US offers a more limited selection of phones than we have in the UK and Europe...never understood why.

Just out of curiousity -- why?

I have a 8300 (Blackberry Curve). It rides on my hip. It works perfectly with the car.

Is the issue charging? I charge at night.

If I really needed to charge, while not pretty, I could plug it in inside the console and it would still work. I think I would only do that if talking for hours and hours on a long trip.

I think I would find it a pain to routinely have to snap it into some carrier.

Am I missing something? Is it perhaps people in poor coverage areas need this for the external anternna?

Otherwise, I think the blue tooth integration is just about perfect, I never think about it. Just make calls, receive calls... never touch the phone (never forget and leave it in the car!)

yea, my iPhone works seamlessly thru bluetooth. I can't see how a charger is supposed to be universal to all brands of cell phones? Where is this "bracket" anyway?
