no temp gauge..
 

Does it bother anyone else that there isn't a temp gauge on the X5? or for that matter Volts? I don't know why, maybe it's the pilot in my but I like a bit more info. I also don't like driving my car hard until it's warmed up, and this makes it a bit harder to know.. I'm sure there is a warning the comes on if it runs hot, but it would be nice to monitor the trend.

The lines just before the red zone on the tacho do not move on my 4.8i, and that is cold start at 2 degrees celcius ambient temperature. The manual only comments as to a warning appearing if the engine overheats.

yes, the lines do not move. The salesman gave me false information.

I don't like the latest trend of BMW instrument clusters. Why couldn't they just stick with the ones they've been using for the past 30 years? They had all the info you needed, in a clear and easy to read design.

On normal days, it takes about 5-10 miles of easy driving to warm the engine up to normal operational temperature. It may be slightly longer on very cold days.

Don't get me wrong, I like the instant fuel consumption readout (I wish I had an analog gauge on the X3), but there's really no reason to ignore the coolant or oil temp gauges.

Personally I think the MPG guage is a waste of space (press the gas it goes down, let it go it goes up), a temp. guage would be much more useful.

I agree that it is important to know what the car's temp. is althought the real temp. you want is oil not coolant but at least a coolant temp. guage would give us a reference.

It is absolutely amazing to me that we have no way of knowing (besides some gouge like the 10 miles driving) when it's safe to floor the car and tax the engine. BMW of all companies has embraced the one thing I used to hate about American automakers in the 80's and 90's with their spedo and fuel gauge instrument panels. I used to admire how the Euro cars had all the instruments and hate how the American ones didn't.. now it's the other way!
