Wanna know how long each build step takes!

I could not find these times so I figured I would post my results as they happen to give people like myself the estiamtes.

I do not remmber the exact date I placed the order. however from this time till production is different and given to you when you order.
I initially ordered the X without the rear entertainment and I was sceduled for week 37 or something, then I added the RE and it jumped to week 34 or 33 do not remember. however it went in to production a week early.
Went into production status 150 on wed. 08-01-07
Finished production Tue. on 08-07-07
08-08-07 went to paint on Wed. Scheduled to finish paint on Fri. 08-10-07
08-09-07 vehicle in assembly,schedule complete on 08-10-07
08-10-07 dealer told me it was in 155 status.
08-10-07 finished production
08-13-07 still finished production and shipped across teh street. bmw has no more info, have to get more form the dealer. as of now its not shipped yet.
08-14-07 Loaded on shipping truck.
08-16-07 1900 arrived at dealer. cant wait till tomorrow
more to come.

I hope when this is done this give some help, this is what I been searching for and never found.

This is the same info I've been seeking and have gradually come by my own:

Dealer gave me a scheduled production week of 33 when I ordered. But things are moving quicker (but not quite as quickly as I thought now that I understand the automated responses I've received pertain to individual stages of production vice the total process). Vehicle went into production on 8/3. By 8/6 (maybe earlier?) it was in the paint shop and finished by 8/7. Now the scheduled final completion date is 8/13.
In chatting with customer service rep I learned the typical full cycle is 6-9 days but that start/stops in the production line for a variety of reasons can slow the process. Sometimes though things progress quicker!!

buschy 08-08-2007 05:34 PM

man yours started production two days after mine and went to paint 2 days before mine.
That is a messed up assembly line, I must say??

Maybe. Your revised production week may have been a week later than mine if it was 34. Also I think what counts most is the "slot" that the dealer owns that is assigned to each car they order for production. Lastly I wonder if "scheduled for production" and maybe 150 status simply means "assigned a prospective place in the production process" and that this can precede actual production action by a few days? This could maybe result in a later arriving car actually getting scheduled for earler production?

Whatever the answer is, seems like we will be seeing our vehicles within a couple of weeks? Good luck.

lets see who wins the race??heh

I'm curious to see how you(r car) are doing? I'm puzzled by the responses and timing I'm getting on my vehice via the 800# automated responses. From talking to a live customer rep earlier in the week I learned my vehicle had entered the beginning production status on 8/3. By 8/6 my dealer was telling me it was in the paint shop. Today via automated response (consistent over the last couple of days) I'm hearing scheduled to be out of paint shop on 8/13??

Recognizing the info I'm getting is coming from somewhat different sources, the timing, and individual production process progression doesn't seem to make any sense?

How are you faring?

MD11F 08-12-2007 11:21 AM

If you call BMW and ask to talk to a rep, rather than use the automated system, you get a VERY accurate date. Mine was dead on.

anandp00 08-12-2007 11:40 AM

For me they we're all wrong!! I called the 800 # and chked online. When I called I did speak to a representative and she said that it had finished production and it was in its inspections stages (same thing that was online and automated). She then said to expect the vehicle in about 10 days. The very next day in the morning my BMW SA calls and tells me my vehicle has arrived (Friday the 10th)!!!! So I guess I'm trying to say BMW's Vehicle Tracking System needs some work..from what I've read it's more often off than on. Needless to say I was stunned to recieve the car earlier than expected. I'll be picking it up Monday and posting pictures there after!!

;)

X5WannaBe 08-12-2007 11:46 AM

Not Bad!

I don't mind inaccurate if I get results like yours!

X5WannaBe 08-13-2007 11:46 AM

Customer Service Rep

You certainly do get different results in talking to the rep compared with using the automated system. Learned my vehicle was now finished, through all necessary inspections, and is awaiting transport......Automated number had it due to be finished in paint shop today....

buschy 08-15-2007 04:02 PM

today, online says at vehicle preparation center, which is where it was yesterday, and the day before. since the online is usually behind maybe it in route now?

buschy 08-15-2007 04:08 PM

just called and it was loaded yesterday, and should literally be at the dealer today or tomorrow. ?Yahoooo!!!!

buschy 08-16-2007 09:28 PM

at dealer as of 1900.

LeMansX5 08-16-2007 11:47 PM

Where are you getting your dates info from? Online is never correct and the website is not updated in real time. Your dealer or someone with access to BMW production system can tell the most accurate time. Car does not take that long in production. You are missing in-house transit times. ;)

buschy 08-17-2007 07:49 AM

most of those times are from the bmw center or my dealer.

Good for you! Looks like in the end that your earlier start did come to an earlier delivery after all. I'm still waiting with my dealer telling me my car has just gone to the vehicle preparation center. If your example holds, I would assume it wouldn't be here till middle of next week or so.

I'm puzzled how I can get different and seemly conflicting results on the whereabouts in production may car is even when talking to customer service reps. It is as if my vehicle was sent back into the inspection cycle for a lenghty recheck!

buschy 08-17-2007 03:22 PM

it seems there are little steps that are not disclosed that the car goes through. I know it goes from like 150 to 155. then to the preparation center to go final inspections then on a truck.
my CA told me yessterday that the truck was in alabama, then I called the general manager and when he emailed me back last night at 7 telling me the truck was there. so who knows. see my new post for a quick pic I shot, more to come

Bigtop 08-25-2007 08:31 PM

I guess then mine will come next week then as it has been at the Preparation Center (according to webpage almost a week). I wonder if they consolidate shipments, i.e., wait until they have a loader truck full to Colorado, or do they have half the truck full for Colorado then the other half for Utah??? Let us know how your dealer hands the car over to you? Do they spend time with yo going over the settings, IDrive, configurations for door autolocks, lights, comfort settings, etc?

TheX5 08-27-2007 01:26 AM

My 07 X5 3.0si just transitioned from "On order" to "Scheduled for production" on the website. Dealer had originally said week 36, looks like it has been scheduled for week 35.

Just called the 800# and the automated response system confirmed the website and gave a production completion date of Sept 6th.

I will chat with a rep tomorrow and see exactly what the status is.

The wait is killing me!

RLee371 08-27-2007 02:08 AM

Ive got a production completion of Aug 30th...does this mean that the car will be at the dealer then, or it will be shipped out then, or that it is just off the line now and will still need to be checked out etc...?

buschy 08-27-2007 08:32 AM

that means its probably in Preparation, which mine was there for a day or two or three.
