Oil leak after only 2000km

Today I noticed an oil leak. It is a public holiday today so i will only take it back to the dealer tomorrow. I am angry after spending $100000 I feel I must get a brand new vehicle. Once the technicians start working on this it will never be the same. This is my 5th BMW and never an oil leak. My E53 was also leak free after 5years. This one is only 2 months old, I am not sure if it is brake fluid or engine oil. Any one else with a new E70 having a problem like this. Mine is a 3.0 Diesel

I feel your pain. Although I never had that experience with my 04 3.0, this is something that should not happen to a brand new BMW, specially with the amount of money that you spent. This is something that's expected from Chevy or Ford. I rented a fairly new Tahoe last weekend to drive the kids to the beach and I noticed an oil drip on my driveway. Other than it's such a pain to get rid of that ugly mark on the driveway, the truck has only 5K miles on it. Go figure.

Good luck! I hope it's not an engine oil rather than some fluid from a hose or something

You do have a warranty correct? If so why be angry? Just get it fixed and enjoy your day.

The dealer says its the differential seal and they do not have the part. The propshaft needs to be removed to do the repair. They say it may be ready on tuesday. I am not a happy chappie.I really feel dissapointed. I had second thoughts about getting a Range Rover Sport due to oil leak problems on Landrover. Now This.

It was supposed to be repaired but there is still oil on the under covers. Any one else having oil leak problems. This is so frustating on a new car.

Maybe they didn't clean it off and it's oil left over from the repair?

Hi
today i noticed an oil leak as well! i've had my E70 for 3 months now :S
a (limit) is displayed in my car as well, and the oil has to be refilled i think :S

It's a new car, it is NOT supposed to have an oil leak :S

I am taking it back to the dealer tomorrow. This is so disapointing. Te X5 is othrwise an amazing vehicle. Pity about the quality issues. Hope you get sorted out.

Dubai_86 08-21-2007 05:39 AM

I'm taking it back today, i hope it wont stay there for a long time! :S

Had it back today, they had another go and said they found the problem. Went back with it to the office, it is still leaking. I really am going to try and insist on a replacement. on top of this all there was no loan vehicle so they will call when they have one. Very wery disapointing.

2300km and all this stress.

I don't have any advice, I just wanted to say I'm sorry you're having this trouble. I felt like I had a stone in my stomach when we had a non-functioning air conditoner the day we went to take delivery of our X5. I can only imagine how it feels to have an oil leak in a new car. A very expensive new car at that.

Good luck, I hope BMW steps up and solves the problem to your satisfaction.

It is now back for a 4th time. When I collected it yesterday I was told that the oil was from the power steering pipes which were not tightened enough. After a short drive oil again. This time I have insisted on a replacement. I will not have it back, they gave me another loaner and would tell me on monday what is to transpire. The dealer principle did commit to replace. Lets see. Not so convinced about owning the X5 anymore. what a pity it really is a dream to drive.

Things can and will go wrong. No matter how well they are built.

With so many X5 vehicles out there already not having any problems... You should accept that no matter how much you pay.. there can be a problem that was not anticipated.

Vehicles come with a warranty for that very reason.

I completely understand your frustration and would feel the same way. I would not worry about it so much.

My Parking break is down now for the 2nd time in 2 months... The price you pay for buying the first of a new run. My vehicle was delivered in December and many changes have happened since then. My vehicle is too old for the retrofits.

I understand what you saying however 4 times in two weeks and only 2000 kilometers, I feel it must be replaced. After the workshop has fiddled on it so much I am convinced it will never be 100%.

Sounds like that may qualify you for the lemon law and you would be entitled to a replacement.

drod 08-26-2007 07:38 PM

that really sucks!!! there is no excuse...not all new cars have problems... and this year seems like a truly bad year for BMW!

it's ok to have one thing go wrong but when you have to return three or four times for the same crap that's a problem!!

whatever happened to great customer service.....and more importantly quality assurance??

we shouldn't have to compare these vehicles with Honda and Toyota...but we do..and why? because we fear the obvious!! problems and nothing but problems...

sorry guys, I'm just venting.... it's been a long wait for the 08s!

I am starting to worry my new comming X5 now. May be most of you dont' have problem at all, but I hope I won't receive a "lemon".

So far, I collect all the problems from this forum:

1. Parking brake releasing issue.
2. Oil leaking issue.
3. A/C vent issue.
4. Blank I-drive screen.

what else?

I am making a checklist for inspecting the new cax before I drive it back from BMW dealer.

They called today to advise they are replacing. So I think that is really fair.

Doing the same here. I'm also tracking a Rear Enterainment Center issue in my list.
