Floor mat - rubber or fabric
The dealer threw in mats. Look nice, but the one for the driver area doesn't stay in place well, and is also looking a bit ratty already as the fabric balls up.
I'm surprised there is no clip, the last several cars I have had (no BMW's) did. While perhaps not quite as pretty, how about the heavy rubber mats. Do they stay in place better? |
my BMW stock mats stay just fine w/o the clips. Seems like they've got some kind of velcro type bottom side that keeps them still. I agree however that their quality is totally lacking and borderline unacceptable for a BMW.. I can see me replacing them at yearly intervals or more.

I'm looking at the rubber mats - especially for the winter months. There seem to be two choices: Liners or mats. Mats look like they will handle snow/slush covered boots much better
|
BMW has OEM winter mats, a vendor here sells them.
|
I flipped mine over and there is some velcro-like circular pad there, but it doesn't do anything.
MD11F -- what do yours stick TO? Just the regular flooring, or is there some opposite-polarity velcro on the floor? Mine will slide freely around, just take your hand and move it. Almost no resistance at all. |

btw, click on my signature "BMW" and you can catch some pics of my rugs.. I'm sure their the stock OEMs.

Hmm...
I took a couple of pictures of my mat (driver). See here for back http://linwoodferguson.smugmug.com/g...183644857-O-LB The light grey is some kind of foam, the circular pad looks like the loop side of velcro, but there's clearly nothing on the floor to stick to the black pad. The overall mat slides around pretty freely on the carbeted floor. This is a closeup of the front side of the mat at the edge. I show it for two reasons: http://linwoodferguson.smugmug.com/g...183644868-O-LB One is to note that the floor carpet (between the rolled edge and the black plastic) shows a relatively small pile carpet similar to the mat itself. It looks nice, but provides no significant texture for the foam or velcro to catch. The other is the CHEAP result of using the mat for 4 weeks. Just 4 weeks and the pile is tearing up and coming off, notice it showing over the rolled edge. Yes, the mat needs a vacuum, but that's not my point -- what you see is the mat coming apart not (just) dirt. Cheap and ugly. Anyway... does this look like your mat that doesn't slide around? |
you should have received the other part which needs to be installed, it requires drilling. They should be in a small plastic bag in the rear storage area. They are round plastic disk with a velcro like top, you simply drill a hole and push them into your carpet,
|
When someone first buys their car it is necessary to install rubber mats on top of the stock fabric ones. This will almost eliminate all smells that would normally absorb and stick to the fabric.

Nothing like that. I saw them bring out the Mats in boxes, and just pulled them out and stuck them in the car, the salesman did it, and he sure had no drill. They left nothing in the rear (I just went and checked). That's annoying. Though I am leaning toward rubber anyway. But am still annoyed if they rushed through the install. But I will say it was near closing time, and they had 3 cars to deliver, and seemed to rush through everything. I had to go back and get the BMW Assist done a couple weeks later also. Should have bought a car no one liked then the salespeople would have had time for me. :( |
yeah, I don't know anything about drills and plasic discs.. Do you have pics?
|
I can shoot a pic. I have not installed them yet. I have two sets one came with the all weather mats and one with the carpet mats the dealer installed.

Interesting... I didn't get this kit. I wonder if it was supposed to be given to me.
I do agree however that the mats on this car are wholly unacceptable for a luxury car, much less a $74K BMW.. I am going to shop for a high grade after market set and just let these wear out over the next few weeks. I tend to be overly anal.. I vacuum my cars out more or less daily (I keep a rechargeable Dyson in the garage) and I also clean my wheels inside and out weekly or sometime even more often.. That's just me. |
yea, I'm the same way...drives my wife crazy.
btw- one kit was in the car when I bought it, the other was w/ the rubber matts when I bought them from the dealer. |

If any of you US guys are in Australia at anytime and want some beige OEM front LHD rubber mats let me know.. I bought them and forgot to check the RHD/LHD thing.. I could return them but it'll cost a bomb in postage back to the US...
 |
I'm finding a few places to get high quality burber mats like on my Mercedes on line, but the problem is that none of them come in the tobacco brown interior color I have.. I wonder if anyone came across a source for that?
|
my e70 came with the oem winter(rubber) mats. anyone know where i can get oem floormats, what i should pay, and a rear trunk mat? need in tobacco. thanks
|
The pictures shown above have words that seem to imply they are for rubber mats. Did you have these on rubber or fabric?
I'm was about to print those pictures and take to the dealer, when I noticed that. |
one is for the rubber mats and one is for the carpet. They are exactly the same.
The carpet mats came w/ the X5 and I found them in the back storage area. The ones you are refering to came with the rubber mats that I purchased later from the dealer. |
