2008 X5 can be ordered now.

Just heard from my salesman at the local BMW dealership.
The 2008 X5 can now be ordered.

that just means he will take your deposit.... he can not really order your car. they could have done the same thing months ago really.

if they can order the 2008.... then they need to be able to tell you what the options and features are.

correct!

no official pricing, no info on available options, and no VIN number means no official order.

another dealer wanted to take my deposit too... I'd rather wait till I have more hard numbers to negotiate...

should be soon though...

Say you've got financing from capitalone online and the "blank check" you get. You'd give them a personal check for the deposit when placing your order after negotiations... at what point do you pay the rest in full, is that always at the delivery? Is that where you fill in the check with all the dealer fees like destination charge, etc. ?

Did I miss a step in the buying process ?

apply for the capital one or lending tree "blank check" when you can officially order the vehicle otherwise it will expire and you only get one chance to extend it..(usually 15-30 days) than you have to reapply.

negotiate the price with check in hand....including fees, taxes, options, etc... then pay with the blank check the amount you wish to borrow.

Balance is due on delivery..so if build & delivery take a few weeks or a few months after you have ordered the vehicle you have time to come up with balance if you don't want to use the total amount on the blank check...

The blank check process will require the dealer to fill out the attached forms and may include entering VIN number....

that's it!

To use Capital ones blank check they require the VIN#

I had to extend mine bc my dealer did not have the VIN till much later on.

Hmm, one other thing is that I don't want to give them the blank check as I first place my order and have to start paying back on that loan months before I even get delivery. What are my options ? Pay small deposit by personal check at time of order, then pay with blank check during delivery + the balance out of pocket, correct ? Anything wrong with that ?

sounds like a plan...
