New E70 and problems with AC vents
 

Hey,
I got 2007 X5 custom ordered 3 weeks ago from Austin,Tx. They took just 2 weeks to deliver the car at the dealer, which is very impressive. I own BMW for the first time. After enjoying for only 3 weeks(500 miles), I have found a problem with the A/C, it does not blow the air from the front vents. I took it to the dealer yesterday and he says that there is a problem with the cables that run to the vents? They were jammed and it is the assembly defect??? Is this a common problem? I have spent so much money and such a poor quality? They are going to take 3 days to fix this problem. The loaner car that I got is from enterprise which is a crapy car ofcourse. Any advices on how to complain this inconvenience to BMW?

I would give the SA hell about a decent rent a car. They should give you another X5 or the least X3 for a loaner anyway. I normally get Enterprise cars when my dealer performs warranty fix that takes more than 1 day but I demand for an upgrade. They will give me Lexus or Audi's. Complaint to the Service Director and if that doesn't work out, call the BMW toll free number 800 831 1117 and complaint to customer relations. Good luck.

My X5 has the same off and on problem with the front center vents. The same setting some times it blows and other times nothing. The cold air still comes out the other wents and the car cools so I have not taken it in just for this. I do not think it is rare. Other than this and a interior light lens by the rear seat that falls off I have had no problems.

Check I-Drive settings for aircon.

Any new car can have a problem, I'm sure they will sort it out don't panic the car is great. Iv'e got 1500 very enjoyable miles so far. Only problem is she loves to stop at gas stations for a drink.

Which dealer did you take the car to? I see you purchased in Austin but live in Houston? So did you take it to a Houston dealership?

I have purchased it at Austin and took it to Houston dealer (Momentum). Does this make a diferrence?
There is a new twist this story by the SA. First of all he was suppose to give the car to me on Wednesday and never called me. After my repeated voice messages he had called me this morning and says that he had tried to fix it by installing a new cable that goes to the motor that shuts on/off of the vents. Now he says that the new cable is burnt again. Initially he said it’s jammed and now it’s burnt. He seems to have ordered for a part that would take a day. He doesn’t seem to know what seems to be the real problem and fails to convince me.

Tomorrow is my wife's birthday and we plan to drive up north for good 4 days to celebrate. I am not sure what do :(

Sounds like you should take it to another dealer for service.

I agree. I've heard dealers in Houston are not as great.

The reason I asked if you got your car serviced in Austin or Houston is because I was under the impression that a dealership provides better loaners to people who purchased their car from them. So I think BMW of Austin would not have given you a crappy rental car (unless they completely ran out of loaners), whereas Houston dealerships wouldn't go out of their way to treat you well.

I live in Austin and one of the reasons I bought my X5 from the local dealership, rather than shopping around the state for a deal, is because I felt I would get better attention from them come service time. And so far it's been true. I've always received BMW loaners (including a 2008 535 that I had been wanting to test drive) and they have been excellent at taking care of my car. And if I ever have an issue with my SA, I can always contact the salesman who sold me the car and he'll take care of my issues. My salesman has been great about letting me know that I can continue to come to him if I have any issues.

Of course, BMW of Austin was recently rated the #1 BMW dealership in the US for service, so maybe that's why I've had a great experience and maybe it has nothing to do with the fact I bought my car there. :)

In my case I have been in I drive air and have them on max center and still it is hit and miss. The car cools as the air just comes out the other vents so for now it is fine. It is my only quirk.
