Delivery rescheduled
Gents,
The Mrs. is very happy. The dealer told us that delivery has been rescheduled from March 2008 to ... December 07. He was able to swap a production slot he had open for a Diesel with ours for a 4.8i. Production is planned for October with a 6 to 8 week shipping time = car ready for delivery mid December 07. Just wanted to share this with you fellow board members. |
Glad you're able to get your X5 early. I'd certainly like to have that happen to me :D

I would like to start by saying that the M6 and X5 were built for a different reason but they both have plenty of "Freude am fahren" which is something BMW has tried to achieve with all their models and all of us BMW fanatics appreciate very much. Obviously, the "Freude am fahren" in the M6 is of a different class compared to the X5. The M6 is a sports car but one you can use every day. In other words, you buy a state of the art GT which can be turned into a hell of a sports car at the push of a button. Handling is stunning and can be fine-tuned to your own personal wish (and driving skills) as one can set up the EDC (damper control), the power (400 vs 507 bhp), DSC (traction control) on or off or MDM which allows for a little more fun before the system kicks in and the speed of gear changes (from S1 to S6). Endless possibilities and I use a lot of them. The X5 handles really well compared to the new ML and Q7 in my opinion but compared to the M6 the handling is ... uncomparable. The engine of the X5 is smooth and delivers power whenever needed but compared to the V10 from the M6 ... I won't even begin. The sound of the X5's V8 is very sporty IMO but compared to the screamin' of the V10 it is ... you have to hear it I guess to understand it. Brakes are OK on the X5 and during the test I didn't feel any signs of fading (despite 5 or 6 emergency stops from high speeds) but compared to the M6 ... not even a close match. IMO the X5 sets the standard again in its segment and is a real pleasure to drive and handles really well. When we talk about the M6 we are in another world and you buy this car simply because you want a sports car but you get a GT along with it (for free (haha)). I took my M6 to the French Rivièra and loved every mile we drove. If you set the M6 up in P400 mode, D1, DSC on, EDC comfort (a setting I have NEVER used before) it would probably be like driving the X5 on the highway. Comfortable, eating mile after mile and providing plenty of driving pleasure. But, I would still take the M6 because at the flick of a switch you can play around and compete with almost anything out there. But to drive around my most precious cargo (the Mrs. and the two girls) an X5 4.8i will provide plenty of fun combined with excellent handling and every once a while you will get a little bit of the M6 feeling in a SUV. Ohh, before I forget ... there is one thing which both cars have in common: they make you visit gas stations way to often;) |
