Ipod Integration Issues

There were some reported issues with the USB/Ipod integration on the E70 with the audio system switching to FM mode for no rhyme or reason. Does anybody know whether this issue has been since corrected?

Just trying to decide whether I want to pony up for this option on my '08 X5. If it's still an ongoing problem, I'll just use the AUX port and put the extra $$$ in my pocket.

I wouldnt let the reported troubles sway your descision...if you plan on using the ipod, the option is worth every penny.

Get it.. I have had it stop working once which was ok after a power off... It's a fantastic option !!!

I have the 6FL option and suffers the dropping out to FM issue. This will be resolved and the sooner the better in my opinion. It is an excellent feature and far superior to the basic aux input. SPEC IT!

I was promised a software upgrade in September to resolve this issue...

...still waiting!! September is a busy month for Stealers in the UK and no doubt my "already bought and paid for X5" has slipped waaaaaay down the priorities list in favour of more new sales.

X5JDX,

At least one customer (from another forum) has had the issue fixed at the dealership level. Here's the link:

http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum...d.php?t=760623

Scroll to the third-last entry. Apparently the solution is 'Program 26'. . .whatever the heck that means. Hope this helps.

After discussing this same issue with my service manager at BMW Autohaus, I forwarded him this exact same link thinking it might expedite matters (IIRC, it is post #22 on that thread...)......two weeks later, still waiting for a call from him that the software upgrade has arrived. In the meantime, I have another little problem to be fixed, so I can wait a little bit longer to get it all done at once. I think it will take some time for the solution to filter down to all the dealers....especially here in Canada....

I purchased my X5 mid-June '07 and have been experiencing the intermittent iPod to FM drop -- some days more frequent that others. I did the exact same thing you did, in that I forwarded the thread that talks about this issue being resolved refering to a'program 26' fix. Since then, after two requests, my service advisor has not responded to my requests asking for a status on the fix. I called BMW NA this week and they told me that it will "probably" be fixed in a Sept '07 software release but she couldn't confim. All she told me is that engineering is aware of the problem.

I suspect that BMW is covering up something since they have been extremely vague regarding when this issue will be resolved. What I find ironic is that other new BMW models are experiencing the same issue and if your car was manufactured before a certain date, they will supply you with a fix -- supposively a hardware fix.

I trust that BMW will resolve the issue but they are doing a poor job of communicating a committment as to when this will be fixed. I'm surprised for a company that prides themselves on good customer relations. Very frustrating....

I've had my X5 (Aug. 07 build) for 2 weeks now and no problems with ipod dropping to FM. In fact, I rarely listen to FM anymore. AM for news and talk radio and iPod for music. It's a great set up.

Mine was also an Aug/07 build, and I had hoped that I would be spared this issue....alas, that wasn't the case. I also have the CD changer as well, so it has saved me from Music starvation while I wait for the fix.....

Im curious....do you also have the CD changer?
Did you hook up your I-pod to cable to 6FL with the car on or off.

Maybe it's something as stupid as that...but me thinks not.....

Jareddad 09-07-2007 04:28 PM

I didn't get the CD changer. I don't quite remember, but I think I hooked up the ipod with the car on. But I leave the ipod plugged in all the time. Not sure if that would make any difference.

OK...how about it?...anybody else with the "drops to FM" 6FL option/I-pod problem that doesn't have a CD changer??? Could it be that the CD changer is adversely affecting some of these cars in regards to I-pod use through the 6FL with the cable?

A long shot, but it shouldn't take too long to find out if there is some correlation.....

I don't have the CD Changer and experience this problem constantly when using my iPod 8Gb Nano.

jamesboags 09-07-2007 11:11 PM

I have CD Changer and 6FL.. have not experienced the drop to FM at all.. just one initialiisation problem which hasn't occurred again.. I have the Business professional head unit with 8 programmable buttons.. maybe it's linked in to the type of head unit in the car and maybe other options such as premium DSP sound (I don't have the premium sound)...

jeffnin 09-08-2007 12:17 AM

I had the problem (and don't have CD changer). Dealer replaced the MULF2 control module and updated car with Progman v26.02.01. So far, problem has not recurred and have fingers crossed.

TopgunNS 09-08-2007 04:00 AM

Sorry for being thick. I have a changer with mp3 cds, dab radio, tv and the dsp hifi. Everytime i've been away from the car for a few hours, it drops to fm when it starts up and goes through all the cd's again before i can access them. Is this the dropping to fm issue being discussed or are you talking about dropping during playback?

Does everyone else's car do this or have i got a fault?
