Anyone got the Rear Bike carrier

Has anyone got the rear bike carrier that screws into the rear towhooks ? It apparently does not meet Australian regs but I might import one anyway .. saves me getting a hitch.... anyone use one ?

Thanks

Common' James, go with the roof rack. They're not really that hard to mount the bikes. I have 3 mountain bikes that go on the roof using Yakima towers and cross bar. I'll post some pics when I have them mounted. I get a lot of looks when I have my bikes mounted on the X5, I think they look better than rear carriers as long as you don't forget that you have then on when you go to the Mc D drive through or park in the garage.

I've got a steep driveway and prefer to mount the bikes in the garage , but I'd like to see the photos.. the other option is a hitch mounted rack .. but I don't have a hitch ..!!!

I hear you. I used to have a Yakima hitch rack. They're cool and convenient but for some reason, mine rattled and moved when driving. I'll post pics when I have the bike rack installed.

Yes, I used the standard roof rails on the E70. You need 2 pairs of Yakima towers(low rider) and a pair of crossbar. I'm using a 48" crossbar allthough Yakima recommends 58". I don't like the bars sticking out too much. You also need the locks. The pics with the skis (with my daughter on the E53) is the same set up. I have the skis in the middle but the tray on the side (with the Yakima logo) is the bike rack. The other pic shows the actual tower and crossbar set up on my E70.

BTW, a similar set up is available on the Thule system also. Thanks
