Dealer Tire and Wheel Protection Plan
Dealer is offering 3 yr tire and wheel plan for $500.00 and 5 yr for $700.
What do you guys think? I believe the Michelin run flats come with a 2yr manufactures warranty so your basically paying $500 for one extra year. Has anyone had any experience with either in getting a tire repaired/replaced? I have never ben a fan of dealer extras but given the cost of these tires this doesn't sound like a bad deal. Thanks |
Michelins come with Road Hazzard warranty.
This topic has been debated several times, try searching for several long discussions. Not worth the $ imo. |
I did it, but that is because it covers the rim as well...not just the tire. No manf tire warranty will do that.
|
Thanks for the feedback. I wasn't even really thinking about the rims. Other than curb rash I've never lost a rim.
I'll search the topic. |
they tryed to push that crap on me when i told them from the begining im putting bigger rims and tires on
|
it supposedly covers aftermarket rims/tires as well
|
yes it covers any wheels/tires you put on the vehicle. But it only covers up to the cost of the oem wheel/tire. Which msrp on those are probably almost as much as my custom DPE's
|
It also doesn't cover rims damaged by hitting a curb.

maybe if the curb was in the middle of the road, lol

I have hit two curbs!!! Left Front.... Right Rear!!
Never EVER hit a curb till I got these rims.... |
Well here is one thing to think about. Have you ever had a runflat get a hole in it. If you have, have you every found a shop which will repair it. I have RF's on my 545 and X5 and also on my dad's 650. I have had a nail in my 5er and my dads 6er had one too and i called about 10 places and nobody would fix the tire. My 545 tires are 300 a piece and the 650's are about 400 a piece. So the 429 i paid for the tire/rim protection is well worth it in the long run..... It is like all insurance... you may never need it untill you do and when you do you are happy... if you don't you wasted the $$$ but have a warm fuzzy feeling i guess
|
its worth it just for peace of mind
|
Actually it covers the rim if the damage prevents the wheel from holding air.

I've just checked with my Connecticut dealer and they said they do not have a good plan to offer me but there is a good one through GE that still has to be approved in Connecticut! My dealer says they're trying to push this approval... Unfortunately, it does have it to be purchased when the car is new and I'll get my new X5 this month. And a question for anybody that might know about this insurance... Do you think that I could just go and buy it from a NY dealer? I'm only about 25 miles away from one. |

In the end, I decided not to get it. You could call a few NY dealers and ask for the F&I guy. Shoot me a PM if you want the name of the guy on Long Island where I purchased my truck |
does the dealer offer insurance on tires/rims if i buy the
wheels/tires form bmw. ex: i am getting the 3.0 w/ 18" and will be upgrading to the 20"s style 214 rims?
