Robert'sX5 10-01-2007 04:02 PM

Doesnt the Tech package include NAV?

CGSTL 10-01-2007 04:04 PM

In 2007 it did... Now, we're still waiting for those details. Hopefully we'll know soon.

thanks for the scoop so far... I knew checking every other hour would pay off. :D

The premium package even for that new price needs more goodies. :( No mention of comfort access being included in it either (like in Canada). I'll take that as an added goody.

STIG 10-01-2007 04:59 PM

No words on diesel? :(

James Douglas 2007 10-01-2007 05:04 PM

Well… cars are already cheaper in the U.S., and now you get free options! The 2008 prices for Switzerland are now available on BMW's website: CHF 1000 (~$800) base price increase, and almost every option is more expensive. For the configuration I had in mind, the price increased by more than $2000 :(

And the X6 is probably going to be even more expensive…

Investor 10-01-2007 05:05 PM

You can order Saddle Brown now for US. I have a Nov. production slot with it and autotailgate.

CGSTL 10-01-2007 05:07 PM

Anyone know how the auto tailgate works? Does it open both parts of the hatch - upper and lower?

Nav seems to be in my Tech package

I ordered my 3.0 on 9/26 and recevied the printout from the dealer. The premium Package did not include the Roof, it was listed seperately. However, the technology package does include Nav system. Sounds like the system already had the right information. With no change in price for the tech package, I can't see them pulling nav out.

I'd also be interested to know the specifics... do you touch a button back there and it auto-closes, or is it just a button in the dash where you'd have to run back in first? Or do you pull it slightly and both parts will start closing (like minivan doors)? $500 isn't too bad.

asawadude 10-01-2007 05:36 PM

If it's the same as the 5 series touring, the remote release button (located above the hood release) opens the rear gate or it can be opened from the keyless entry transmitter. To close it, push a button located on the edge of the tail gate.

PDC goes hand in hand with the auto tailgate. I normally back my 530xit into perpendicular parking spaces. If I'm showing red for the rear PDC, the rear hatch will not clear the rear obstacle, particularly walls and fences. I learned that lesson the hard way by being 1/8" too close to a concrete wall.

rodybmw 10-01-2007 05:43 PM

I remember reading here that the auto tailgate was only for the top section and the bottom was still manual. I don't know if this is actually the case, and whether they may have delayed the introduction so that they incorporate the bottom section too.

Honestly it would not bother me if the bottom section did not open automatically because as long as the top section opens there is enough of an access area to put whatever we are carrying in there (without having to open the bottom section). It still serves the purpose of not having to put down grocery bags or other heavy items on the ground in order to open the tailgate.

Investor 10-01-2007 06:33 PM

In the X5 brochure on page 51 it specifically mentions opening top portion only. I assume that is still the case today.

SignHere 10-01-2007 06:34 PM

I was able to remove Nav for an existing order on a 2008 4.8i today, so Nav is NOT standard this year.

What about Navigation as standard?

IMO they were trying to decide whether to make pano roof or nav standard for 2008, since both were removed from their respective option packages. There were multiple reports of folks with orders in the system that were unable to remove nav. It looks like that has changed, and they have made their decision in favor of the standard pano roof instead.

I have a dealer fax from last week for 4.8 dated 9/25 (confirmation from factory for order). In my printout the Navigation system is not included in the technology package but is listed seperately. So perhaps there is still some hope (at least for the 4.8.)

I have seen the same exact thing. Let's hope! We should have the order guide PDF yet this evening or tomorrow a.m. with any luck. That will give us our answer.

Can anybody tell me what the DVD disc changer is all about? I thought the NAV doesn't play DVDs...so why do I need the option to not watch 6 of them??

CGSTL 10-02-2007 12:09 AM

Ha! :bustingup That's funny! I think it would be DVD data. Instead of 680MB of MP3's on a CD you can put 4GB of songs on a DVD disk.

I actually doubt the DVD data proposition. I think it would be for DVD-Audio...

CGSTL 10-02-2007 01:04 AM

Are MP3's copied to a DVD disk formatted in your PC to 4GB capacity considered data?

Yeah, I would say so. It's just that so many other cars have "6 DVD changers" that seem to play mp3 cds fine but not mp3s burned onto DVDs. So I'm just assuming that the x5 will be the same and only player DVD-Audio. But, who knows DVD mp3s will be a very welcome surprise.

oredart 10-02-2007 12:07 PM

I may regret this, but I'll be waiting for the Nov production model that has the auo tailgate. Hopefully there's an emergency lever (like the red cord on a garage door opener) once this new piece of technology breaks and becomes a major complaint topic on these boards

Especially with new models, I'm usually am on the 'less technology, less breakage' boat but I can see this being so handy when you've got a handful of groceries / sports equipment... hit a button, throw the stuff in, hit the button. Right now, I have to mess with pulling out my keys, swing open the tire carrier, open the top glass, open the bottom half door, then repeat to close.

Even a remote car-starter is less practical than this... I'd definitely go for this tailgate thing.

rodybmw 10-02-2007 03:14 PM

After they introduced USB/iPod integration on the E60 they removed the CD Changer from the Premium sound (L7) package....which reduced the cost of the package from $1800 to $1200. I was hoping that they would do the same for the E70 as I will be getting the USB/iPod connection anyway and would much rather just pay $1200 for the premium audio than $600 more for a changer that I would not use. Unfortunately instead of getting rid of the CD Changer in the Premium Sound Package they have replaced it with a DVD-Changer. I don't see the point of a DVD changer to play MP3 DVD's. Why would I spend the time to create 6 MP3 DVD's if I can just plug in an iPod or hard drive? So I hope that the DVD changer CAN play DVD video and display it either on the iDrive screen (while the car is stopped), or the rear enterrainment screen.....or both. Otherwise it just does not make sense to use it to play MP3 DVD's (or even DVD audio) if you can just connect an iPod.

If there is no video DVD playback then just give me Premium Sound without a CD Changer for $600 less.....like the 2008 E60's.

Okay my amigos... just want your opinion. I just talked to my CA and he told me that if I want to have the auto tailgate, the order would have to be submitted in November (is this true?) and I'd have my X5 by mid December. Whereas if I go with the order I have now ( I can already track it via production # ) I can have it by mid November.

I know, I know... it's a personal decision: do I add the auto lift gate and wait an extra month, or screw it, skip it and enjoy the X5 sooner?

Come on... give me your thoughts!!

I would wait for it......what's another month after all this wait.

However, it does not make sense that they would have to wait and place the order in November. They should already have their November production allocation now (or very soon), so they would just have to configure one of those cars to your liking. As far as I know if they wait and place the order in November it MAY delay it further

kustjag 10-05-2007 04:35 PM

Hey all, I received the pricing today, here are the option prices:

ZAV Active Ventilated Seat Package - $2,100

ZCW Cold Weather Package - $900

ZPP Premium Package - For 3.0si $2,750 for 4.8i $1,750

ZPS Premium sound package - $1,850

ZRC Rear climate package - $800

ZSP Sports Package for 3.0si $3,600 for 4.8 $3,600 plus $960 for optional 20 inch wheels and tire (style 214)

ZTP Technology Package $2,600

note: navigation is still included in tech package

Only addition is Automatic Tailgate opening and closing $500

gmoney 10-05-2007 04:41 PM

So basically, in addition to the auto lift gate being an available option now, the changes are:

$900 less for Premium package for 4.8
$100 more for rear climate package
$50 more for premium sound package which is going to include a DVD changer
$10 more for 20" wheels.

Minor corrections. Rear Climate Package is $900 and 20" wheels are $950.

According to the '08 info pdf, it says the window shades (417) used to be a standalone option but now it's included in the package. New Rear Climate Package price is now $900.

Also don't forget the rear entertainment package now comes without headsets... so it's $100 less too.

I would not be counting chickens before they hatch (no pun intended). The auto tailgate has been delayed more times than I can remember.

drod 10-11-2007 09:01 PM

I have not placed my 08 order because of that uncertainty.

I'd rather wait till I hear from the dealer that autotailgate is in live production...(and they have already delivered one or two vehicles built as such)

I don't expect it to take months....(I'm hoping by end of Nov/early Dec)

I know there have been delays...but how difficult can it be to design and test a viable autotailgate option??

MB has it, Ford&Lincoln have it, Cadilac has it, and Mazda has it!!! :wtf:
