Availability of 3.0 sd

I'd be interested to know what delivery people have confirmed for the sd particularly in the UK ? If anyone has just ordered one I'd also be interested to know when dealers are quoting delivery for a new order. My dealer is having issues getting enough cars....I have a very good relationship with them as I have known the Head of Sales for more than ten years but he's having trouble getting me an early car.

I ordered mine about 3 months ago with the dealer and he got an official build slot for dec 07 so im expecting mine late dec/early jan depending on shipping. My dealer said that many of his customers who had a 3.0d on order have switched to the sd. last time I spoke to him he said he had about 30 on order which puts delivery well into next year. I was luckly I got in their early and get their first sale unit after the demo which they get in nov. Its worth ringing around a few dealers to get an idea on lead times.

Makes sense that people have switched from the 3.0d. The sd is something of a bargain by BMW standards particularly when you look at it versus the 4.8 which it's performance is comprable with....even though it has less equipment it still looks "cheap".

My Dealer in Ireland (which is just an offshoot of BMW UK) told me that BMW will only allow them to order around 15% of their X5 allocation as SD.

My dealer says that he will only be able to get 3 initially.

He told me about the SD last February so I told him to put my name on the list and gave him €1000 to try and secure the order. I have since actaully placed the full order, but as yet my dealer has not been able to confirm production.

On the value of the SD, I am dissapointed that the Irish/UK spec on the SD is a lot lower than in most other countries. If you look at the international X5 info you will see that things like the Xenon's etc come as standard on the SD elsewhere. It seems to be like the 4.8 of diesels!

You are in the same situation as me. My delaer is struggling to confirm a date. I heard the BMW UK may be effectively allocate each dealer a number of the twin turbo diesel engines and the dealer can within reason allocate them across the X3,X5,335 and 535 as they seee fit.

I just got my build slot confirmed....week 45 so my car should be at my dealer end of Dec. I won't take delivery until January. Very happy....I've gone a bit mad with the options.

dwarfer 10-13-2007 02:25 PM

Congrats Fredo,

It sounds like our cars will be built and delivered around the same time.
Will be intresting to see how close the are once we get a VIN number and can track the build in December

What options have yoo gone for?

I've gone a bit silly to and currently im at 57k as i wanted the adaptive drive. I think I have to comit on the options early Nov.

Sounds like we are in the same price bracket....apart from the two packages the major options I have are the panoramic roof, third row seating, comfort seats and 20" wheels. No adaptive drive and I'm knocking on £57k! This car will last me a long time though as the family transport.

I will indulge my desire to change cars frequently with the second car!

My dealer has a stack of orders he can't fill for the sd.....bodes well for residuals I reckon. The UK consumer hasn't really cottoned on to the congestion charge and increased car tax yet.

I ordered a 3.0sd in march 2007.
Delivery Date is end of Nov or at beginning of Dec.
3.0sd fully optioned only no panoramic roof and automatic tailgate
