What's ambient lighting in 2008 premium package?

I ordered 2008 X5 3.0si with premium package...

Noticed that 2008 premium package has ambient lighting, which is not found in 2007 catalog...

Anyone knows what it is?

Thanks!!

I have ambient lighting on my 2007 X5 3.0.

X5FX's page shows it nicely.

scroll down 75% of the page and look for the 2 dark pictures. I definitely want this feature but it's not available as a standalone option. Since I want leather also, I guess premium package it is.

It's the lighting in the door handles.... as I quoted in my post.

Interesting. If that's it then things have changed because "Ambient Lighting" in the past was been used to refer to the LED's inside the vehicle that bath the interior with an orange glow. Note this quote from this article........

"BMW has used ambient lighting it its cabins for years. Hold your hand under the front dome lights of the late model 3-series and you will notice a beautiful amber glow, which illuminates the audio / climate controls when the lights are on."

This same lighting is in most BMW's. It's in my X5, it's in my brother in laws 7 series, and it's been in the 3 series cars i've been given from the dealer as loaners. There is a degree though to which it is implimented though. Cabin "Ambient Lighting" in a 7 series is all over the place in comparison to the 3 series and our e60 and my X5. Maybe these days the application could be different and i wouldn't be surprised.

If we use the link you just provided here's what it says.

"Interior:

Main interior lights: operate when doors or opened. Include lamp in overhead console, and above the rear passenger doors.

Map/Reading lights: located next to the main lights

Ambient lighting: small, faint, orange LED in every interior door handle. Small, faint, orange LEDs in front and rear door bins. No overhead ambient lighting like in the E53.

Pathway lighting is something different. If you hit the flasher after turning off the car, the headlights stay on for the specified amount of time you set it to in the iDrive menu.
