How should I haggle?

My dealer is quoting me $1000 off MSRP on an 08 with few options. Obviously they are holding back on me. What can I do to haggle? I need some tips!

Don't waste your time with this dealer. There are deals out there, just have to find it.

I'm in the same exact boat...I'm going to take that 1000 offer to 3 other dealers...whoever beats it the best gets my business

When I was buying my 07, I used www.edmunds.com as a starting point. The TMV price shows what others in your area paid for the car. Not sure if there is a lot of data for 08 models yet.

I don't think anywhere discounts them much more then that. and going long distance to save a thousand bucks probably not worht losing your local dealer relationship.

You need to work one dealer against another.

You don't need to give then name of the dealer, just say that you were offered $2,000 or $3,000 off at another dealer.

It does help to go to more than one dealer and Edmund's cost figures also helps.

$2000 off is the first offer I have heard when calling any dealer on phone. My response "That's it" Dealer response: "I think I can do $2500".

Another option is to try the Costco Car buying program. If you are a member, you can call them, they will hook you up with a dealer (may not be near you) and they will give you the Costco price. It was about 2500 of invoice. Then you can use that with your dealer.

You have to be willing to walk if they don't come down enough. Also, remember that they are more willing to deal as they get closer to the end of the month. So work'm now, then walk if you don't like the price. Then you can call them back around the 28th and ask if they could take one more look at giving you a better deal. Should do the trick.

Good luck!

When I go car shopping, I tend to go in with a reasonable number in my head, and try to stick with it. Don't let the dealer play games with you, if they do, just leave and go to another dealer. All the BS where they bring in the sales manager...
Many times if you walk out on them, they will call you in the next few days and will do their best to work something out with you if they believe you are really serious to buy.
If you are going to a dealer that you have never worked with before, its also good to go with someone that has bought a car from there before.
