Question for Dog Owners!
 

Do those of you that have dogs use the Luggage Compartment Net that can be specced or a proper metal grill to keep mans best friend at bay? Have to finalise the spec on my car very shortly.

I dont know what your talking about but I ahve a german shepard and a great dane. I am getting the cargo liner cover thing. no gate or anything but I think my dogs listen and stay where they are.. also probalby to big to climb over the seat.

I have a german shepard and have never used the net.

I have ordered the cargo net on my E70, but I am not so sure how it will work with dogs because it leaves a bit of a gap up either side between the net and the C pillar.

In the UK Accessories catalog for the E70 there is a "Dog Guard" listed and is described as follows;

"Black Anodised grille partition, easily removed if required. Ensures dog is unable to access the occupant compartment. For 5 seater only - part for 7 seater under developemnt".

It costs £145 and the part number is 95 01 0 000 025.

Thanks very much for that. Sounds like the dog guard may be the way to go. Don't actually have the dog yet...that's one of the reasons we're getting the X5!

I have two cocker spaniels that are a bit nuts! I fold down the seats, and cover any exposed leather with a blanket, and then use an old cargo net that goes over the head rests and pulls down over the rear cup holder to keep them out of the front. It would be easier the keep them in the cargo area with the seats up, but I usually have that area full.

The net works perfectly, and the space between the net and the C-pillar is minimum (I guess it would be big enough for a Maltese to get through!). Have German Sheps, and although they are trained to stay in the back, the net is a safety feature when you have to brake suddenly and they get flung forward.

I have three Afghan Hounds and the youngest comes through if he wants to. The net bends and he can crawl thru. And the dog is about the same size as german shepard. I would say, if your dog is well trained, it stays in the back and the net is enough, if it is a little rascal buy the dog guard

I bought a net but have not installed it. In the US when you get the premium package you have slits in the rear floor and latches. One could leashed a dog to one of these point where they could stand up and move but not far enough to get over the seats. They could also get all fowled up in the leash if they are too active.

Buy a $100 cage and keep everyone safe. Also keeps hair out of the cabin and eliminates any clawing damage. My lab loves his cage. The best money you'll ever spend.

I use a custom built cage keeps the dogs safe and the car clean.

my German Shepherd has never tried to leave the cargo area.

Thanks for all the replies. I have ordered the net for now (it costs £100 in the UK) and I will see what happens. As I sais we don't actually have a dog yet but one of the reasone we are getting the X5 is that we are going to get one (this is my atempt at "future proofing"). If the net doesn't work or isn't suitable I will get the cage....I would rather order the net than regret not having ordered it!

having the net won't go wrong. If you only going to get the one dog then have a llok at these...... dog bags...........

We have a lab with no net/cage. He is fine to just sit in the back. We do have th cargo liner, which somehow slides around if you dont have the interior luggage lockdowns installed and holes cut in the liner.

Good luck with the dog. For your sake and his, I recommend as many series of obedience classes as you can stomach. I did three different 8 week courses excluding the basics I tought him at home as a young pup. We also spent alot of time outside of the classes working on everything. The result is a very well behaved dog. The added benefit it the socialization with people and dogs your buddy will receive. Also, many common human food items are poisonous to dogs, so stick with dog food.
