18" vs. 22" on e70
 

Hi All,

does anyone have experience with 22" wheels? Currently I'm running on 18", but they look awful. Thinking about order of 22" from Hartge, but afraid it will get too bumpy for my kids on the back seat. Can someone state how bad the riding comfort will be hurt by installing the 22"? :confused:

Huge difference. First off the tire is now 4" wider and once you've picked a tire for it the aspect ratio (side wall) will be so small that every bump will be absorbed by the cabin. Depending on the width of the tire used, you will most likely notice a 'pull' from the pavement as the larger tire finds more uneven surfaces. It isn't the rim size that alters the ride, but the tire size.

Front: 9,5 x 22" ET 28 mit 265 / 35 Pirelli ZR 22
Rear: 10,5 x 22" ET 21 mit 295 / 30 Pirelli ZR 22

or

Front: 10,5 x 22" ET 33 mit 285 / 30 Pirelli ZR 22
Rear: 12,0 x 22" ET 27 mit 335 / 25 Pirelli ZR 22

your poor kids will be going bounce bounce bounce with the 25 AR.

if you must go 22's, stick with the 35/30. If possible I'd check out the OEM 21's.

don't like the design of oem 21's. 20" Y spoke are more or less ok, but Hartge are just great!

Well take a look at the OEM 21 tire specs, you don't want to blow a lot of money on wheels/tires to find out your kids get a headache every time they are in the car :)

its not that bad with 22's, its the same as the 21's. I have 22's on my X5 (e53) and i drove the '07 with 21's and no major difference. I will say that there is a difference between 18's but when you start going toward the 20's, the ride is all same. I guess its when you hit the low profile tire sizes. I am running 305/30 on the rear with Dunlop sport maxx and they are way smoother than the stock runflat 21's IMO and the new e70 must have a better suspension than my e53.
