6FL Option Quick Question
 

I'll be getting a new e70 shortly and I'd like to know if you guys have heard of an alternative for the 6FL option. My dealer says it's not available for Latin America and it seems like a waste to not use the idrive while connected to an ipod...

I dont know where are you from but here in Panama I was able to order 6FL

I'm in Nicaragua. Our local dealer gets their cars precisely from Panama, which I think is Bavarian Motors.... Either they are lying a...oles, or the availability just changed!!! Would you be kind enough to tel me where you made that order??

I am in Guatemala, and I could not order it either. I guess I can buy the cable in the States and have it installed.

I dont think so, i think it HAS to be factory installed...

i dont think its factory installed .. i think its an accessory ..

My point is I think it has to be pre installed by the factory.... I don't think the dealer can install it as an option, once the car has been delivered...

i think you're wrong .. accessories can installed after the car arrives for example the wood on the steering wheel and the wood selector and if u check bmw usa , in the accessories part , the ipod integration system is listed there as an accessory

There is an accessory option but it is not as good as the 6FL factory fitted option in terms of breadth of functionality. From memory, I think it does give you track names on iDrive etc, but not charge function.

Search the forum, there was a thread ages ago which showed pictures of both options. The accessory one fits in the glove box beside the CD changer.

your dealer is missed informed, I ordered my car with 6FL, and yes, it was through Bavarian Motors.

is there anyway to control the ipod the idrive without having the 6FL ?

i herad something about an AUX input??? but does that show up on the idrive??

So if an ipod is connected to the AUX it would be a "stupid" connection. Meaning all the controls would HAVE to be made from the ipod...??? Correct???

that's correct... into the aux is nothing more than connecting a generic head set type input plug.. everything is controlled through the iPod itself..

it will still work, and the sound will come through your system but not controls..

wife has this on her car and it works well for her....

me, I rather have the steering & idrive controls that come w/the factory installed 6Fl option

what about "ipod your BMW" ???? that does not work either??

I have bought the OEM iPod adapter accessory and it is fully functional, menu is displayed, iDrive controls and the cable charges the iPod.
6FL USB is a factory option, cannot be ordered after the car has been delivered - this iPod adapter can be ordered instead.
The only limitation is the lack of connectivity with other USB devices, such as pen drives (it comes with the iPod proprietary connector)

Is this the same option that the e53 has?? You know, BMW1,BMW2, etc..???

I have no idea about the one for E53 - might be. Here is how it looks like. Btw it is an Alpine product (written on the unit), but listed as BMW original part.

On the e53 solution , you only have access to 6 playlists which you have to pre-name to BMW1-6...

E70 Ipod connection retrofit kits:

65 41 0 415 655 - for vehicles with cd changer for 6 cds only in conjunction with rear panel, glovebox

65 41 0 412 881 - only in conjunction with bracket cd-changer

On the other hand an E53 4.4i 2006 would require this (shown in the pic):

65 11 0 392 134 Ipod installation kit x3 x5 z4
