Programing Universal Remote
Hi Everyone,
I have a new 08 X5 and pretty standard garage with alternating code, Genie I think. I have tried unsuccessfully to program the remote to the garage. I have used the learn button on the door opener as the instructions indicate in the manual and the garage door. No Love! My wife has an Lexus IS250 with HomeLink which programs in 2 seconds. Anyone have this issue, any thoughts? Thanks |
Sounds like you've got the process down.
Clear the homelink buttons in the car (hold down the 1/3 button till the light blinks) Press the learn button on the unit In 30 seconds press the Homelink button in the car along with the remote I found that on some BMW's you need to push the homelink button prior to hitting the remote Try a couple more times. |
Are you saying press the learn, then press both the button on the mirror AND the button on my hand held remote? If so, I'll try it!

First, clear the Homelink system in the car by pressing the 1/3 button simultaneously. That will clear out any codes so that they unit in the car is blank to accept new codes.
Then press your learn button on the garage door opener (really easier if you use two people here). Then go to the unit in the car and press the button for Homelink and the button on the hand held remote. As I said some are tricky. My X5 was slightly different from my 645. |

Has to be something in the sequence. I stuck the extra remote on the visor for now |

This worked perfecrly, I think I was holding 1 and 2 not 1 and 3 to clear it. Worked perfectly - Thanks |
Ok, Got it! Looks like the trick was pressing the button (1, 2 or 3) in the car first, then pressing the learn button.
Thanks! |
There we go!! Good work guys :)

Something to remember is that if your remote sends out a short signal..... you will need to keep pressing the button so that the device can pick it up.

think that was covered a couple times above.
