2008 X5 - Where is the phone snap-in thingy?

Hi All-

Just picked up my new 2008 E70 X5 4.8i last week. Sport/Technology/Premium/etc...

The Bluetooth integration seems to work fine with my Moto RAZR Ve maxx.

Ok, on my 2005 E60 545i, under the armrest, there is flip-up doo dad that accepts a "snap-in" adapter for various phone models.

In my new X5, the center console is just a huge gaping hole -- there is a cig lighter outlet and the iPod jacks -- But why is the flip-up doo dad missing on the E70?? Did the 2007 E70 have this feature??

Thoughts?

The swing up arm should be there ready to accept your chosen snap-in adapter. use the search engine here, there were pics posted previously.

As far as I know it's an option you get from your dealer depending on your type of phone

Welcome to the club! I've had this same experience with my 2 month old 2007 E70. Thinking that all I needed was the the particular snap-in adaptor to fit my phone (also a Motorola RAZR V3), I ordered the correct adaptor. Then I discovered it was physically way to small to connect in the boxy space even if some kind of electronic connection were available. In reading various threads and dialoging further with others, I then learned you need an "eject box" installed first and then the adaptor could actually snap in. I obtained some details on the ejector box and instructions for installing, but it didn't look like something I was confident I could do. So I've been waiting, snap-in adaptor part in hand, for new developments with the 2008 model hoping that a more integrated procedure would come to pass....Not yet I guess.
This is a real letdown. The E70 owners manual makes a big point about hooking up to the internal power supply and built-in antenna, yet there is no reasonable path to do so. H E L P!

Note: This situation applies to the U.S. sold models. I don't think they have this problem overseas for some reason?

So, is the problem just not having a specific place in the car to place the phone and simultaneously charge it up?

A snap-in adapter shouldn't affect the usage of the phone with BT/X5. Are you having problems without an adapter? At best, having an adapter will improve antenna capability.

You are largely correct in your observations. It's not that the phone doesn't work, it synchronizes correctly and contacts are loaded into the address book. Likewise one can call out and receive calls efficiently. But reception/broadcast would be improved with a direct hookup to the car's built-in antenna which would make a big difference in some driving locations. Having this happen via the snap-in adaptor where power is provided as well vice needing another cord would be helpful as well.

The E70 is touted as a technology rich vehicle yet achieving the potential it advertises is difficult to do in this instance....

2008 E70 - No Eject Box!

Guys-

Thanks for your help so far, but my point is there is no eject box!

I guess that is the name of the flip-up thingy that holds the snap-in adapter.

Does anyone know what all I need to buy and how to install??
