Playing IPOD through adapter in shufffle mode

hi folks

Here we go with another technical IPOD question that we are probably all sick of but maybe someone out there has an answer.

Does any know how to set an IPOD to play in the Shuffle Songs mode through the factory installedd adapter. (now version 27.2)

I set my IPOD to AUX in the entertainmentmode, and have the following optinons to select songs: PLaylists, Artists, Albums, Genres (which is totally useless), and Songs. I preset the IPOD to the Shuffle mode with no luck.

In scanning this board a couple of weeks ago I came upon an audio screen that said Random but I think that was for CDS.

Anyone have a clue.

Just to think I have been wasting all this time on my IPOD and have yet begun to figure out the Bluetooth and Navigation systems. I told my dealer last night that they should run a series of educational seminars to intsturct consumers on this stuff. No chance

any help as always appreciated in advance.

Who would teach it? I have not found the dealership personnel to be that familiar with much of anything beyond the basics.

BMW dealers would be wise to read these messageboards! I find that I know more than them and I didn't even pick up my car yet. Kind of disappointing when I have a question and want a quick answer from them...

come to think of it... are you guys inviting any of these dealers to these forums??

I have mentioned it on a number of occassions... just so they can be abreast of any issues, concerns, and customer service problems...

not sure if anyone has registered yet.

would be nice if they did. (and it benefits them from a "potential sales perspective")

So does anyone know the answer to this? I just picked up my new X5 and still cannot figure out how to shuffle the songs!!

after selecting either Playlist, Genres, Artist, etc... allow the first track to play... as it is playing hit the enter key (press in the control knob)

you will be prompted with other options including Repeat & Randon...

you will notice the songs being shuffled as they continue to play...

hope that helps.

I think the only way you can do this is to browse to a play list select a song and push down on the IDrive knob. You will get a context menu with one of the options being "Random" -- select this. Now songs will be played from this play list at random.

The bummer is, this setting doesn't stick. the next time you fire up the play list, you need to set the "random" setting again.

I don't think you can do anything with the IPOD itself to cause playback to automatically shuffle.

/\/\ that did the trick!! only with mine it did stick! Have been in and out of the car all day, even switching to Sirius, still the random play is active. Thanks so much;)

Genres works for me. I have about 35g of music on my pod and the best way to navigate through it is using genres. Nothing seems to stick for me so I want to try the random tomorrow.

In addition to not sticking, when in the random mode, the ipod repeats every song you have with the same title. I must have ten versions of 'Who do you Love' for example, by different artists, and the IPOD will play all 10 of these, plus any duplicates, in a row, if I don't hit the fast forward button. Small complaint but nonetheless a pain.

In the menu with the random mode, the IPOD always resets itself to tone. I have no idea what the hell this is. Any one have a clue.
