Cannot add option?

I did order E70 on 10/31/08,NEXT day i called to dillership to add one litle option /runing boards/and they told me that car went to production alredy /status 150/,so no changes. Is it possible, only 24 hours and alredy in production?

Yes, that's possible and it happened to me. My advice is, get the car you want! My dealer told me that I could cancel the order and the only penalty would be the delay in getting my car. I think it's worth it considering that the delay is nothing compared to the 3-4 years you might drive the car.

wow... that's pretty fast.. they must be ahead of schedule and rolling them out the door!!

not sure what to tell you..if he can't or won't then you may not have much of a choice...

one note though... in one of my conversations with my local dealer the topic came up about what to do if I didn't like the color combo after ordering it blindly..(since he wasn't able to produce a sample vehicle of those colors in person for review)

he looked at me and said "plain and simple, if you don't like it don't accept delivery"

i wonder if that is truly possible... if it is then you may have another option..

Do that and I doubt the dealership will want to work with you again...unless it's totally justified.

It's possible, but very unlikely that the order went through within 24 hours, I think...

You can add running board later, just costs a little more money....

Someone else(?) (marcx5?) seem to have the same problem at the same time...

Interesting....

no, i'm just trying to AVOID that problem.... i can't decide if i want the running boards or not... or if i should get black or beige interior. :)

I'd say, get the running board.

I don't have it, and without it, it's very hard to get in and out....

It's only $300, nothing compared to the $50,000+ vehicle cost.

I'm going to add a few options a year later, and that includes $300 running board if ordered from the factory, at $600+....

And the 6 disc changer, titanium grills are on the list so far.

i don't need the running boards for getting in/out... it would simply be for looks... but i'm not convinced if it looks better with them or not.

also have beige interior on my 2002 x5 now... and trying to decide if i should stay with that color or try something new and go with a black interior (black outside) this time.

The running boards do add some looks to it but if you didn't have it, would you really miss its looks? I don't think so...

I haven't bought an X5 yet, but in looking at them and test drviing them a bit, the sideboard/step just gets in my way and, I suspect, will result in lots of road crud getting on my pants cuff in the Winter if I'm not careful getting in and out.

I can see that if one had a small child they might be useful to make it easier to get into the vehicle, but for myself, I would pay $300 to have them left off.

I'm 6' 2" and perhaps that has something to do with my finding the sideboards non-functional, and it might be different for other people.
