Cool! Thanks for posting that
Thanks for the info
a little better than i expected!! i like the idea that it's adjustable...
can't wait to play with it!! |
I wanted this option but it was not available when I ordered my X5. Any idea if this auto tailgate can be retrofitted?
No it can't.
Aww, I wish it could have been.
The rear hatch is 2-part, though it makes no mention of this. It seems the bottom part is still full manual... correct? One thing this may effect... what if the bottom half is opened and you try to auto-close the liftgate?
Or are these auto-liftgate models just 1-piece now? The illustration shows 1-piece... never seen this change mentioned. |
this feature assumes the driver will only want to open the top portion of the tailgate (it is still a two-piece design) for loading or unloading groceries or other items that don't require having to open the bottom portion...
not sure if there is a sensor for detecting an open bottom in cases where you forgot to close it and are auto closing the top. it'll probably just close (but not lock) and just ignore the open bottom! |

This looks great though. Can't wait to get mine! |
It says it in the PDF file that the "Function Requirement" is that the lower portion is closed.
I'll post the entire 2008 manual for your rewiew....It addresses all your questions. Auto tailgate is on pages 33-35. BMW says I should receive my '08 next Friday. Will give review/pictures on Auto tailgate, auto hold, and DVD changer.
The upper portion will not close with use of the push button if the lower tailgate is not closed completely. The auto function only controls the upper hatch portion. Push a button on the console or fob and the hatch will open to height set in the idrive. Push the button on the hatch door and it closes automatically.
One more question if it's already known - can you manually open/close the top if you wanted to? I know sometimes it's bad for the gears, etc.
Thx for the answers... not a bad design with all the options it comes with but of course would've liked the full control. |
Yes you can manually open and close the hatch but it is easier to just push the button on the hatch door.
