3 issues already only after 629 kms !!

2 Attachment(s)
hey guys .. ive only driven my x5 for 629 kms and it already has 3 issues ..

FIRST ISSUE : i noticed today while i was reversing out of the house , the right side mirror tilted downards to make reversing easier but when i looked at the left one , it hasnt changed positions .. anyone experienced this before ? are they both meant to move or only the right one ?

2ND ISSUE : yesterday when i opened the tailgate (manual) , i noticed that one of the "thing" wasnt exactly inside the hole (SEE PICTURE) but the other one was .. i tried my best to squeeze it in but made no use ..

3RD ISSUE : the brakes on this car are fantastic but ive never seen a cars rims with more brake dust than mine !! anyone know how i can minimize this ?
Also , the front wheels seems to have more than the back wheels (SEE PICTURE) .. is it meant to be ? or am i experiencing a problem ?

Thanks all in advance

1) both mirrors don't tilt only the passenger one, read the manual.
2) rubber grommet popped out, pot it back in or have the dealer, or someone in your entourage, do it.
3) you can apply Zymol wax to the wheel to repel and make removal easier, however the only remedy is changing the pads.

thanks wagner ..

where can i change the pads ? i received "BMW Rim Cleaner Gel" when i got the car .. does that also repel the brake dust ?

about the rubber grommet , i think ill let someone from my entourage do that ..

thanks

A cleaner will not repel dust.

The front wheels of most cehicles take a much larger percentage of the braking load due to normal physics, therefore more brake dust.

LeMansX5 11-17-2007 11:09 AM

Change the brake pads to aftermarket.

Tainui 11-17-2007 11:19 AM

The problem is Karma not BMW.

By now you are probably used to it, why not just keep them on untill they wear out...
Are you also one of those people that keeps plastic on with your new electronics?:slap:
Dont tell me that with all that blogging you havent found time to actually spend 5 minutes to take off plastics. I am sorry, is it wrong to be upset to see a such an expensive vehicle covered up in plastic as if you are still considering to return it! If you feel good on driving on plastic, why didnt you get leatherette in the first place, I hear its more durable.
Sorry, had to vent...:explode:
now feel much better, especially after sticking in all the smilies :band:

EBC makes ceramic aftermarket pads. Redstuff X5 4.8i front EBC# DP31472C Rear EBC# DP 31118C. You will get more dust on the front than rear this is normal. Pop that gromet back in. Once you get the new pads wax the wheels with Zaino or another good polymer based wax this will make it easier to rinse the dust off and protect from imbedded brake dust. Do the front of the wheel and back of the wheel in all the crevices. Hey where are the babes???

~KaiFy GaiwanY~ 11-17-2007 12:20 PM

lol no babes ..
the gromet doesnt seem to go back in !! HELP

It goes back in....if you can't do it, take it to the dealer.

WTF are you talking about 'no babes'

~KaiFy GaiwanY~ 11-17-2007 01:11 PM

Aren't those the optional sand repellent seat covers made for the desert?

Quicksilver 11-17-2007 07:31 PM

Stop complaining about that. Just take it back to the dealer and let them do their job.

Regarding the brake dust, just wax the wheels as suggested. If you change the pads and they wear out BMW is not going to replace them with your upgraded pads. Brake dust is a minor issue. It's worth it if for the next 4 years or 50K miles someone else will be maintaining your ride. ;)

Scottie 11-17-2007 07:58 PM

IMHO. Poor PDI done by the dealer that they didn't notice the rubber gromet I'd go back and get them to sort it out.

You will notice more brake dust on the wheels at the moment as the car is new and the brakes are bedding in. Will reduce slightly after the first 300 miles.

Quicksilver 11-17-2007 08:32 PM

He said he already has 629 kms on it.

I doubt he cleaned the brake dust from first 300 miles.

~KaiFy GaiwanY~ 11-18-2007 04:16 AM

the brake dust has started to accumulate from the 1st drive !! about 30 kilos !!

Eric5273 11-18-2007 05:53 AM

I have owned a number of high performance cars, and unfortunately I have found one of two problems with the brakes on all of them:

1. Either there is lots of brake dust.

or

2. They squeak

If you change the brake pads to ones that don't give off lots of brake dust, be prepared for problem #2.

edlee 11-18-2007 08:29 AM

More brake dust just means your brakes are working well; just clean them off your wheels daily and all will be fine; especially where you are. I'm sure you don't experience the kinda rain we get here.
The use of either a duster or paint brush whilst the wheels are dry will do wonders.
