control display idrive question turn off

when i turn the control display off (idrive) at night there is still some backlighting so it has a very slight backlight that is annoying on dark roads - can it be turned completely off ? it looks like a television that is on but not receiving a signal ..its a "blank, black screen" but not "OFF". any help or comment is appreciated !

Not much help to you, but mine is the same.

Unfortunately there is not much you can do. This is a LCD screen with backlighting (as all LCD's have) the display turns off, but the LCD remains "active" that's why you get the glow.

I agree. Unfortunately, this is how BMW defines 'off'. I suppose they want to stay in standby in case something comes up (a traffic alert, a future turn from NAV, etc) :dunno:

The screen would require a warm up if turned off completely, so instant-on alerts would be hindered. The only time I notice the "glow" is on really dark rural roads, and it's never distracting, just turn on your highbeams.

What is it with the ads for Infiniti products on a site for a sliver of BMW loyalists?!
