Steering resistance Question
 

is it just me or is the steering for the E70 really really tough? Other cars i've driven had a much lighter feel to the steering wheel. When turning from all the way to the left to all the way to the right when parking for maneuvering through tight space with one hand I have to put some effort into turning the wheel. It does not seem to return to the normal position either often. is there anyone else having this problem?

No problems here with active steering. A little tougher with the fat 20's than the 19's.

No issue here either. I think I recall reading about a posting where someone had a silimar issue and it was a bad steering rack.

Problem? That is one of the reasons I bought the car - the driving experience, including the heavier steering feedback.

I thought the same about my E70 from the second I pulled it out of the lot. I attributed that to a "sportier" feel. Although I do prefer heavy feedback, sometime it felt like I was wrestling a gorilla. Parallel parking was a bit difficult at times.

I brought the X5 in for a laundry list of problems. One being a rattle that eventually turned out to be a bad swaybar. After the first service, I noticed the streering was much lighter but still had the solid feedback. The incorrect diagnosis fixed a problem I didn't know existed. Turns out I had a defective power steering rack and return hose.

Have your dealer check that area out to see if it helps.

the x5's steering is amazing with active steering .. parking is a breeze !! :)

steering is so hard, i feel like im getting a work out everytime i drive..

do u have active steering to start with ? if yes , then you need to go get your car checked :)

For those of you complaining about the steering effort, what cars did you guys drive before?

I found the X5 sport with Active Steering far too light and numb.
