There is a SIB regarding loose bolts in the upper tailgate hinges causing a leak...

Thanks James! I'll talk to the service department about it but they were pretty confident about the bad weld that had to be corrected. Clearly wasn't simply loose bolts. Besides, I want to say the wife's car is five months old, so it would have been produced before the 08/07 timeframe in the SIB. But the info is appreciated and I'll file it away for future reference if needed.

Leak apparently solved
Well, got the X5 back today with the leak supposedly fixed. We'll see the first good thunderstorm we get! The issue is related to welds in the tailgate area. Basically, under the spoiler (proper term?) along the top of the tailgate, there are welds between two sheets of metal. One of those welds was bad from the factory. Fortunately everything is under the spoiler so no visible damage from welding. My service advisor indicates there is no recall or SIB about this but we were the third X5 this dealer has seen with the issue.

interesting... hope all is well...
btw...what is your build date? i need to closely monitor this.... it was pouring last night but i never bothered to check back there... i'll keep it in mind... |
Drod, will have to check when I get home. We took delivery on May 23rd, so likely late April/early May 2007. We had ordered the car back in March 2007.
