Seven Hour Programming?!?!

Have car in for service, a couple of tiny things one of which is steering wheel returning all the way out. Needed reprogramming.

They called mid-afternoon and said I would not ge tit back today, it "still said 7 hours remaining to program".

How in the world can flashing in a new program take 7 hours?!?!?

Is that normal? Are they loading the bits one by one on a toggle switch?

By the way, my oil change -- the first -- was calling for 25,000. I decide I wouldn't even consider going that long, so am paying for a first change at 6500. It's pretty black. Yes, I know it can last longer, but I feel better. But 25,000 miles? And 2 years (I bought July 2007, it says July 2009).

PS. They gave me a 328 as a loaner. Piece of junk, seat is uncomfortable and the car smells (I think it had smokers in it). And I had to sign away all my rights to get it. This "we always provide a loaner" is not everything it is cracked up to be.

Yep, That's quite normal. I have had my car re-programmed 3 times each time was a whole day and once 2 days because of a faulty module.

You can never go wrong changing the oil regularily. I do mine a few times between the recommended time.

You should send your car to Taiwan service, Ferguson.
One of my friends here, he sent his E70 for re-programming and he got a 745 as loaner:wow:.:wow: Though he has to sing a lot documents but, hay, isn't it worth?

wow, now thats a SERVICE right there. My dealer here in Canada puts me in a 323i with all season tires on every time, even when there's 6 inches of snow out there.

Well, got it back, got some new firmware including the split PDC screen (nice). They spent another 4 hours programming today before they gave it to me. This is payback for all those bad programs I wrote!

So far so good. Glad to get rid of that smelly 328. Nice they gave me a loaner though, I guess. It came back nice and very clean, everything ready.
