question about tires for 20 inch wheels

Hi all...Got a question.

I am a self proclaimed MORON when it comes to understanding wheels and tires. I have the optional 20 inch wheels on my 4.8. I am thinking about putting all-seasons on instead of performance runflats. My question is, do I have to stay with the staggered front/back settings like in the factory spec? Or can I put a 275/55 series on front and back? I know there is a possibility of messing up the speedo calibration, but any other problems I will run into?

Thanks guys...

IMO, you need to stay with staggered because the rear rim is wider then the front rim. Switching from run flats is fine (keep in mind you don't have a spare tire though) but the width of the tires should stay the same. If you keep dimensions the same you will have no issues at all.

There is also a TIRERACK forum here which is probably better suited to answer this question for you

..I believe the outer tire diameter does not change. Also consider that if you are switching to all-seasons because you will be driving in a lot of snow and ice, the all season 20's may not be the best because of their width.

i would buy a set of rims for a winter setup. im thinking about doing that myself, but may not because i'm thinking of selling my 2002 X5 for a newer X5 with heated seats. like an 03 or 04. Isnt that the year they updated the X-Drive?
