Interior bike rack or holder.

Hi,

Does anyone know of an interior bike holder that would work with the rails in the X5 trunk, to hold a mountain or road bike ? I know a couple of other mid size SUVs like the Xterra and even the Honda element have them as accessories. Once in a while it is nice to keep my bicycle out of the weather, or more secure, inside the truck.

Also, is there a large enough trunk mat or heavy duty carpet that will cover the entire trunk space including the 2nd (and 3rd) seat spaces with the seats down ?

Thanks.

Can't help with the interior bike holder question but would be interested in that too.

Haven't seen any mats as long as what you're asking about. I suggest that you buy a piece of "rubber sheeting" which comes on a roll that you can get at Home Depot-type stores. I bought a piece, with ridges, for another SUV and cut it to fit. It was easily wide enough. It worked well in that SUV. I think that I'll do this for my X5 too...

The double-sided OEM mat that I have covers the whole interior (with 2nd and 3rd rows down)

Are you talking about the "Luggage Compartment Two-Sided Trunk Mat" that has list price of $185? I have one on order (from Morristown) so that would be good news.

Yes the two-sided trunk mat covers the entire area when the 2nd row is down. When it is up the mat folds on itself to cover the luggage area. In addition it also has another flap that drapes over a down tailgate to prevent scratching when loading or unloading.

Just curious to see if anyone came up with a solution as far as mounting bicycles in the cargo space goes. Anyone find anything? Pics?

Nevermind. I've come across this rack in case anyone else is interested:

If you decide to try this one out, please let us know your experience. I haven't seen this one.

Definitely Let us know. It looks like it just lies flat on the floor and is kept in place by it's weight and that of the bike. I'd hate to think of drilling holes to attach it to the floor. Perhaps there is a way to hitch it to the fastening tracks in the trunk.

I just purchased the rack. My car won't be delivered for another month but, here's the link to the site where I picked them up. There's a video that gives you a good look at the product there.
