Possible to retrofit TV tuner?

Hi folks,

newbie here - tried searching the forums, but could not find any references, so could someone possibly let me know if it is possible to retrofit the TV option to an E70 X5 (it's a UK car, in case it makes a difference)?

Many thanks,

Ed.

you can do one of two things. either have bmw uk install the tv module and update idrive or purchase a unit from "tvandnav2go.com" which will fit into the navi professional.

According to my contact at BMW Niederlassung in Munich the TV Tuner Retrofit Kit for the E70 will come out in April 2008. The only thing available now is the DVB-T Settop Box, which you can only use if you already have the factory installed TV Tuner. Any other 3rd party products will only take over the display and use an external tuner to tune in the channels......they will not truly integrate with iDrive like the original BMW tuner, so you can't control the tuner (change channels, etc.) through iDrive like you can with the OEM BMW tuner.

Hi there,

I have been working on this for some time now and a company called Cat1 have fitted 1 for me, it works through the Idrive with tv on the move and by all accounts is better than the factory system. Please see link below:

It looks like the Ampire products that Cat1 uses are a good solution for those of you in Europe where you have digital TV (DVB-T), but I wish they also had a solution for the US as we don't have DVB-T here.
