X5 3.0d Faults...

Hi from Greece!

I recently owned a new X5 3.0d (E70). Everything was ok till last week when I saw th 1st error message to the display: "Parking brake failed... contact BMW service".
I could noy believe that ! A brand new car car that costed 95.000 Euros to show such a problem ! Car has now only 4000 Km !!
I went to BMW service where they checked it and told me that it needs a new parking motor (!!!) and I have to wait for 10 days! This happened last Friday.
Today morning the display a new error message: "Level Adjastement Error (or something like that- I do not remember now)...contact BMW service".
I do not know what to think !
Does anyone have such an experience ? Is it bad luck or what ?
Is it normal to happen such faults ? So often ? What can I do ?
What can I do in such a situation ? just waiting for repair or can I demand anything else ? I do not know, I am just so dissapointed !
Please tell me your opinion !

I agree that I would be disappointed if multiple problems came up so soon especially on such an expensive vehicle.

If yours is a 2007 model, it could be attributed to first-year bugs. Find out what software version is loaded too - many people have had issues resolved after getting the latest software loaded - be glad it could be that simple.

I wouldn't worry too much about it unless it continues to come up with different problems over the next few months.

Thank youo the quick response. I really appreciate it! Yes, my car was July 2007 production and I got it at th end on September. How can I find which software version is loaded and which is the latest one ???
Man thanks again

There's no easy way of determining the SW version. You'll need to ask the service department when it's in. I think version 28.nnn.nnn is the latest.

Dingus, while it is possible that someone can break a leg and have flu at the same time, it is very unlikely that a parking motor had to be replaced due to software failure. Maybe this parking motor was a lemon and you wont have any issue later on. Since you have to go back to get it replaced, it is advisable to get the firmware update done. Expect at least one night for your car to "sleep" in the workshop - they usually do the software update at night, so daytime they can do other work in the workshop.

Yasu!
