When will E70 come with the 3.5i and 5.0i engine?

Now that the X6 is confirmed with a 3.5i and a 5.0i engine, when will the E70 get the 2 new engine? Anyone got some idea about it??

huh???? what are you talking about???

There is no 3.5 engine, and no 5.0 engine in the X6.

There is a 3.0 twin turbo engine (called the 35) and a 4.4 twin turbo engine (called the 50).

Neither have been announced for the X5 E70. Maybe 2009 model year (Sept 08), maybe earlier, maybe later as BMW may wait until they have pushed as many new X6 models out the door before offering the engine in other models.

If I was producing a twin turbo V8 with the turbos in the intake valley, fully enclosed, I would proceed slowly until they were proven reliable and the early production issues were worked out.

:iagree:

Seems like you are speaking directly to me. Man I love the idea of having that twin turbo 4.4 on the X6 on my X5. for now, waiting game...

If the X5 has the dynamic xdrive and the 4.4L v8 TT engine, then what is the difference between the X5 and the X6 apart from the X5 being more functional? The only difference between the X5 and the X6 right now is performance and handling and putting the 4.4L v8 TT engine into the X5 will likely destroy a lot of the sales potential of the X6.

I think the OP is referring to the engines used in the 35i and 50i (hence the 'i' at the end) models of the X6, and not literally calling those engines by those names or suggesting those are the displacements.

Don't expect to see either of those before the 2009 X5 models roll out which is around Q3 2008.

:beerchug:Thanks vinuneuro, Thanks for reading my post correctly. I never said 3.5L nor 5.0L. Anyway, I am expecting the 3.5i to be in E70 by 09 model year, or possible at around late spring of 08 to be as 09 model, when BMW usually brings out something new around that time. But I doubt about the 5.0i. Since the 3.0si is now quite under power compare to any other V6 SUV in the market.

I wouldn't count on spring '08 at all at this point. I would not have ordered if I thought there was even an inkling of a chance it'd come in the next 3-4 months.

M6X 12-29-2007 01:57 AM

is it just me? or does bmw pick engine displacements with numbers that are multiples of 2 for the x5? so is the 6er and 7er. only the 3, x3 and 5er have a 3.5l. im talking about newer models btw.

for example for x5 there's 3.0 and 4.4, 4.6, 4.8, divide by two you get 1.5, 2.2, 2.3, 2.4.

if you take a 3.5, and you get 1.25. guess bmw only want to end at 1 d.p. not 2.

ok am i making any sense lol?

Did you actually read my response? You did say 3.5; I am not sure what you mean by 3.5, whether you are referring to displacement or something else, but there is no such engine. As I pointed out in post #3, there is a 35 designation used in the X6, referring to a 3.0 twin turbo engine. '35' is also the final two digits of models like the 335 and 535. You continue to refer to an engine called the 3.5i that simply doesn't exist in any model. Same story for the 5.0 that you refer to.

Another small point, but important to us engine guys: why are you comparing the 3.0 to other V6 SUVs? It isn't a V6. Compare it to other inline 6 engines, or other 6 cylinder engines, but not other V6 engines.

Anyway, hope you got the info you were looking for. There is no announcement on availability, it is all speculation as to when these engines will show up in the E70.
