Question on rear light (when unlocking car)

Just a question : until yesterday, my rear lights lit up when I unlocked the car (together with the blue leds under the door handles). As of this morning, the rear lights are not being lit, just the leds under the door handles.

What is the normal situation here ? How are guys rear lights acting when opening the car ? I thought it was a cool feature ...

Thanks for the input!

you probably switched keys. go into settings and turn on the 'welcome lights' feature.

4.- Select "Vehicle/tires" and press controller
5.- Turn de controller until "door locks" and press contr.
6.- Select "confirmation" and press contrl.
7.- Select the desired signal: Flash when locking, Flash when unlocking, Acoustic confirmation ...

I did not switch keys. Also the blinkers flash when I lock/unlock the doors (as indicated in the Idrive setting). The extra lights which went on were just the normal rear lights (as seen lit when you switch on the light during the night).
Thanks for the replies !

Does it perhaps depend on the ambient lighting conditons? i.e if it's bright outseide the lights don't come on???

Did you recently switch off the DRL? Has DRL been on (or off) since you got the car? Maybe it has to do with if you had the headlights on the last time you turned off the car. When you unlock, the angel eyes should go on too.

Obvious question... are your tail and brake lights still working normally?

again, it's called "welcome lights" and it's a setting in the idrive system. you just don't have it checked off, most likely.

Check page 102 of (2008 manual) need to have headlight switch in position 2 or 3...for them to illuminate.

ok, we have a different software version then, since I do not have that option available. The strange thing remains : It 'did' work until yesterday. I am going to ask the dealer to put the latest software on the car, since I seem to notice other bugs aswell...
Thanks for all the tips guys!

ok, I just disconnected the battery an hour ago, let it 'rest' for 20 mins, and then tried again. And hooray, all is back to normal :) I did get an active steering error message when I started the car again, but after driving for 50m, this sign went out.

I guess my battery was on the weak side, causing these anomalies (It showed a black indicator on the battery). The car has been sitting in the garage for 2 weeks now, with the only driving being done getting in and out of the garage.

anyhow, problem is solved :)

Hans, if my headlight switch remains in the active position (so for adaptive headlights), and I switch the car off or on, the headlights light up when opening (front and back). Does this help?

Cheers,

Cheers,

Thats the 'nominal' way indeed ! As posted above, a battery disconnect solved the problem.
