Can we replace the tires Run Flat of origin by classic tires not Run Flat?

you get a flat. |
In France, a lot of people says that BMW forbids to replace tires run flat by tires not run flat.
What is it somewhere else? According to me, if the dimensions (275 / 40R20, 315 / 35R20), the indications of loads (front: 106, rear: 110) and of speed ( W ) are respects, there is not an incompatibility. It is just necessary to buy a spare wheel or a kit of reparation. No? |

official line here, it is probably based on marketing inputs, (read: buy replacement tires from the stlr), and/or the lawyers writing the disclaimers for the company. Yes: one will need a spare wheel/tire or a plug & go kit and small compressor. At the least, a couple cans of Tire Goop, which sometimes don't work and provide a mess for the tire changer to deal with. I run non-run flats on our Vette and have a small plug & patch system and a mini compressor; I don't want to have to use them, however. I have done a plug & patch on a motorcycle tire during a trip and it got us to the next city for tire replacement, but working on a small width m'cycle tire, easily accessible, is not quite like hammering on an X5. The problem with these newer cars going to runflat tires is that initially, most tire stores and even many dealers will not have that size(s) in stock. Couple that with some adroitness needed to change out a run flat tire and it's not necessarily a magic carpet situ. My 25Cts is up... GL,mD |
My rears are gone at 11,000 miles. The inside of th erears are to cords. Clearly there is alot of Negative Camber (factory effort to eliminate oversteer in favor of understeer), but also the toe in must be excessive to have created teh cupping and feathering of the tread blocks. I feel foolish to writing this but I never even thought to check the rears this soon. My wifes drives this X5. I track M3s AND 911s so I know a few things about alignment.
I am pissed that these really expensive 20 inch run flats are gone so quickly. Yes yes I know low profile tires go quickly. I am going to do a custom alignment to see if I can get the scrubbing reduced before I spend a chunk of change on new rubber. The fronts have had pretty even wear. Does any one know the factory Alignment specs for the 4.8 X5 Spport package with 20" wheels??? Any comments from anyone who has chosen to differ from factory specs? Any comment on a tire choice? I do not like the Run Flats and will not buy them. They follow every imperfection in the road like Track/race tires. Is there a High Perf. tire whick is decent in rain and occasional snow? Thanks for your help! |
would it be safe to assume that regular wear and tear is covered if you have the tire warranty package?
