Aftermarket pads for brake dust?

I can't stand cleaning the wheels every other day anymore....... anybody make dustless ceramic pads yet?

Denalio 01-11-2008 04:21 PM

No. The replacement pads you put on are warranted by their manufacturer, not BMW, but they are a wear item in any case. BMW don't make brake pads themselves. If you did have a squealing problem it wouldn't be BMW's problem, but other than that no issues.

I feel your pain!

Bavarian Motorsport advised that the E70 utilizes a unique setup and is not a carry over from any prior model and they do not carry any aftermarket pads as of yet.

I am on their waiting list to be notified when aftermarket pads become available.

In the U.S. BMW pays for wear items, such as brake pads and rotors, during the first four years or 50,000 miles. If you do not use the BMW brake pads, I rather doubt that BMW will continue to provide free brake pad and rotor replacement, unless you have a nice dealer who is willing to take a risk do so.

True, in the US they pay for those wear items, but that isn't warranty, it is the maintenance plan. The dealer will not install non-original parts, probably because it violates their dealer agreement with BMW. If you wear out the non-OEM pads, get a brake job from your dealer with OEM pads, and they will install new rotors. Then just swap the pads out. Given how much longer the non-OEM pads last, however, you may never wear them out during the scheduled maintenance period.

So the answer is no? I guess I'll be cleaning wheels twice a week for the remainder of my 3 year lease :(.

I only do that in the summer, when my ride gets once-every-other week wash and Klausse gloss.. In the winter... that is a different story, I only wash it after major snow storms, or if the weather forecast predicts precipitation-free 7+ days. :)
