Are your run flats noisy
I thought it was just me. I had Blondboi with me today and he agreed, the E70 is noisy. My E53 didn't have this much road noise. Is it the run flats?
|
not mine :dunno:
overall it seems like the E70 is 2x quieter than the E53. |
So what's my deal? Ryan thought it might be my window deflectors. I can't imagine why, I had them on the E53 also. Why would I have so much road noise if yours is quieter than the E53  It sure sounds like tire noise to me. :(, I guess I just have to keep the stereo cranked for 23 months....
|
:iagree: After extensive test drives with the E70 and riding in a friend's E53 on multiple occasions, I believe the E70 to be MUCH quieter with regards to road noise.

Uh, no...he looked like that when he got off the plane
Could my tires be defective? Where is that Boi, he'll tell you... Must be at the bar in the hotel sucking them down |
trash the tires, fire "The Boi", and answer me this. why in the truck would you install wind deflectors??? JC Whitney Junkie?
|
what tire pressures are you running? also wind deflectors??? that's is so 80's! :nanana: My 20's with Dunlop Sport Maxx's are pretty quiet.
|
Can you get any BMW without RF's these days??

I had run flats on my 535d which I changed for regular tyres...transformed the ride comfort. I wish there was a spare wheel available as an option in the UK as I would not hesitate to do the same. The X5 is better than my 535d was (it was a 2004 so first gen RFT's) on RFT's but I still think it's compromised. |
I just put my winter wheels and tires on my 07 X5 3.0 and I too can confirm they are quieter and softer. The ride quality is much improved. My winter tires are 235/65 R18 and they are not run-flats.

I am running modified Land Rover Wheels from my 03' Range Rover. I got the wheels from Land Rover UK. They look really good on the X5 too.
|
Mine is quiet and smooth compared to my previouse X5 (E53), but like what everyone else says, non RFT's would be a bit more quiet and smooth.
|
Thanks guys. I hope it's just the tire pressure.
|
FWIW, I think my 211s with RFTs are quiter than the 136s I had with normal tyres on X2, and 64s on X1......never done a back to back test though so couldn't be 100% sure!

hi cmyx5gO
Yes my X5 (E70) is too very very noisy - I also put it down to the 20' run flat tyres giving road noise ! I get a trumpet type sound (or may be better described as a hollow roar) as soon as some heat gets into the tyres and is present from about 40mph and above. I've had the car checked by the dealership incase it was a bearing but all put it down too tyre noise - I'm not very happy as my old X5 was much much quieter (non run flats) The noise also seems loudest from front drivers side, but I do believe it can be heard in passenger side too !! Whats the noise you hear ?? is it simular to my explanation above ?? Would like to hear more above your X5 problem to compare a I was sure it was just my car that was affected Regards Nick |

I'm starting to think it's wind noise, possibly caused by my wind deflectors :( . I'm running 19in run flats. I only hear it at higher speeds. I'm not sure I'd describe it as a trumpeting or a hollow roar. The cabin is just loud, almost like something isn't quite sealed right. I would not attribute it to anything mechanical like a bearing. I need to get someone close by with an E70 to take a ride and see what they say. In the mean time, I'll continue to crank the volume on the tunes. On a good note, the stereo is much better than the one in the E53. |

Hey Brian - are you picking on me :throw:
I don't want to believe it's the wind deflectors. I had them on both my E53s and have never had a noise issue. Maybe they weren't installed properly...I don't know. What the hell do I know, I'm just a girl, remember :nanana: |

Someone (or maybe it was more than one) had given you some negative feedback about your wind-deflectors. When I heard you had those, that made me wonder about that causing your wind noise. Let us know what you figure out... |
